from the engine I have a scraping noise, like two metal plates together, this is only apparent in a low gear (1 to 2) while at medium revs. any ideas what this could be or how to remedy it. I have to confess it started after it was ridden with little oil after a forgot to do something day. Thanks

That sounds bad to me.

I assume you've filled the bike with the correct level and viscosity of oil?

Did you hold the bike up straight when you checked the dipstick?

No oil leads to serious damage.

Could be a bone dry shim, centralise the bike, check and adjust your oil level accordingly, and DON'T rev the bollox off it.

Scraping sound means unlubricated/worn metal faces. Which means heat, which means mechanical seizures!

Careful, careful.
