 |
|
my manual states oil changes should be carried out every 4,000 miles IIRC, but i have been doing it every 1,000 miles(maybe less).
mainly just because it sounds and feels great after fresh oil and i like it.
Is this too often, is it good, bad or just an uneccesary waste of money? ____________________ 04 NSR 125(sold) ---- 03 CBR 600rr(sold) ----90 pan euro ST1100 ' ' ----02 CG 125

I can agree with what you say aswell, the gearchange feels a lot better when its got fresh oil in it.
Cheers

Hi
Not sure it should make any difference doing it that often. Only down side is the attack on your wallet, wear on the sump plug thread and possibly a few extra seconds running with low pressure when first started after the oil change.
The oil itself shouldn't really wear out anything like that quickly (the change to a black colour is contamination).
Would suspect any change you feel is in your mind.
But if it makes you happy go for it.
All the best

I change my oil about every 1,000miles normally before that.
My reckoning is oil catches the impurities, so if i change it more it'll keep engine/gearbox wear down. It's also been said that shorter journeys or long periods of non-use mean more frequent changes.
It like alot of things depends on £'s in yer pocket.
Pat
PS My tip
Invest in a magnetic sump bolt. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

i usually buy the castrol semi synth stuff from halfrauds at £32 plus a filter at about £6 so £38 a time, roughly once every 6 weeks at my current milege, i've also just bought it some new pads all round(£35) new air filter(£30) and new plugs(£50)
but according to the log book it's birthdays coming up in the next few weeks so i had to get it something ____________________ 04 NSR 125(sold) ---- 03 CBR 600rr(sold) ----90 pan euro ST1100 ' ' ----02 CG 125

Its well over the top in my opinion and just a waste of money. In 1000 miles a decent semi synthetic oil will be almost as fresh as the day you put it in, I dare say that it doesn't even change colour in those 1000 miles. ____________________ Yamaha YZF-R6 |

A thousand miles is overkill for a road bike. It's not getting a particularly hard time in the engine.
You can at least double that and do a filter change half as often. ____________________ My Flickr |

just a curious question.
why is it you think you know what your engine needs better than the highly paid team of people that designed it?
do you think this team of highly paid engineers might have set the oil change intervals on the dangerous side of safe?
believe it or not they do actually test engines to see how long they last with all sorts of variables chucked in, 4K miles is adequate unless it is a track bike you are thrashing fuck out of it every time you ride |

i do it every 2000-2500 on all my bikes. 1000 is a little OTT but its your money and your choice. it wont do it any harm so carry on if youre happy with it. ____________________ Current : '08 Yamaha FZ1s
