i think so,

i didn't want a revvy 600 and couldn't afford the insurance on a thou, well i wasn't willing to pay it more like.

a 750 or 800 was perfect for me.

I went for the 1000 rather than the 750, if i had to make the same decision again knowing what i know now i'd still go for the 1000

never had a thou, but moved to up to my gsxr 750 from a yamaha thundercat cos i wanted a bit more grunt.

and im really not dissapointed.

theres no way that i can use all the power on a normal ride and its got enough grunt in it to still scare me a bit even after 3 months but its manageable (in temrs of power) and comfy enough (riding position) to commute every day (which i do).

Theres plenty of drive from low down in the revs, so unlike a 600 where you need to keep the revs up - you can quite happily sit in the midrange (i.e 6 - 8k revs) and still have loads of drive.

it really is a good bike - would highly reccomend Smile

Im toying with the idea of a SRAD 750 or TL1000R For next bike not sure what to expect difference-wise though.

750 is a fantastic bike, and unless you are going drag racing you won't regret it Cool

Any particular questions?

Main query really is are they still 'fun' as in do you have to really work them. My 600 I love thrashin the livin s**t out of to get it to go anywhere. A thou is appealing but its probably more the reputation of them being awesome than anything. I dont want a bike I cant enjoy because its 'too' much for the road. But i want quicker than a 600 if you get me.

Then I'd say the 750 is perfect.

Riding one back to back after a 600 its clear to feel the difference in grunt.

I said it before and I'll say it again, the 750 is just a more powerful 600, not a less powerful 1000.

Its still a revvy natured little screamer. But, with midrange and a harder top end Very Happy

Test ride!

Is there any significant increase in performance between the models, for example is a k4 worth the extra money over a k3 for a much better bike or are they much of a muchness?

Since about '96 with the introduction of the SRAD, the GSXR's performance both in handling and potential speed will out perform all but about 5% of the biking population.

The SRAD is an underrated bike both in performance and in price. You can pick up a 16000 miler in good nick for around the £1600 mark. I have personally toured France two up with camping gear on an SRAD, heeled one over so far on a trackday that the pegs completely folded up, frightened myself stupid on the road and bimbled through traffic on the M6.

If you want a £3000 K2/K3 buy it coz its the bike you want, if you want a cheap entry into the world of going real fast for not much money, buy a nice SRAD for £1800. I dont think you will go £1200 faster on a later one. Plus you lose less money when you sell the SRAD.

K4-5 has better brakes, better handling and more power. Comfier if you are tall like me, the K3 somehow feels more cramped to me.
That said, the older model is funking awesome too.

K6-7 has better handling still, but feels like it has a little less midrange and a little more top end.

I'm 6'2 and fit fine.
Thumbs Up

I'm very comfortable until the 200 mile mark, then the cramp starts to set in but that's a given with any out and out sports bike.
