Call an auto locksmith to come out and make you a key, not sure on prices but I don't think it is over £100.

IIRC the fasteners on the ignition barrel are security type and have to be drilled out anyway, so yes i would say its possible with the lock on.

but chris's idea is probably best/easiest. or as peter andre would say bestiest Laughing

Regardless of whether or not he has stolen a bike, anyone with an ounce of determination will find out with or without our help.

True nebzor, i just find it a bit worrying people are so willing on giving out the way to do it, and as this site appears quite often when searching bike searches on google its almost like leaving the door open for people who previously didnt know how.
And Luke, how do we actually know its his bike then? Wink

Eh?

Just use the correct tool to undo them.

Hi

Normally ignition switches are held on with shear bolts. These are designed so that when they get up to a decent torque the part of the head that the tool fits on shears off, hence nothing to fit a tool onto to undo them.

It is likely to be difficult to remove the ignition switch with the steering lock on. You need to take the top yoke off but to do this you need to slide it up over the forks / steering stem, while the pin from the lock probably goes into a hole in the frame which would stop you sliding it up. You might get away with unbolting it and then sliding the forks / bottom yoke down.

All the best

Keith

liked l said l don't need to know how to get the bike running l could do that if l wanted too, hot wireing a bike and parking in town for eight hours wouldn't be a good idea it wouldn't be there when l finished work. All l needed to know was if the barrel could be changed with the steering lock on.
Which l now know can as honda dealer explained.

i dont think it was the question you asked, i think it was the way the post was worded like "urgent" "bike used everyday" that got 'me' thinking you needed a quicker temporary fix than ordering a new barrel and changing it as you may have desperately needed the bike the next day.

not having a go Thumbs Up , just trying to explain why a few people mighn't have niggles with it.

on the repair side of things, hope it all goes well Thumbs Up

yeah we see your viewpoint and sympathize.
Its just people who might have never knew how to hotwire a bike/ take the igntion out properly now know how to do it, Its information that is dangerous when scum get hold of it, how would you feel if your bike gets stolen and you find it in town with another plate and ignition as someone has looked up on somewhere like this how to change em?
I know id feel really bad.

If someone plans on stealing bikes they're going to find out either way. The knowledge is already out there, why try and 'hide' it?
