PostPosted: 18:44 - 01 Feb 2009    Post subject: TZR250 Wheel Upgrades Reply with quote

I am helping a friend that has a 87 2MA/1KT and we want to put radial tires on it like I have on my NSR250. Has or does anyone know what wheels we can put on it that will be wide enough for radial tiers?

He wants to stay with Yamaha wheels.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Should be able to find some radials already suitable for his rims tbh, failing that a rim upgrade would cost alot as you'd need to find some that will take a small enough tyre so you dont ruin the bikes handling, as well as gettin the rims skimmed down etc etc, its alot of work for some radial tyres, why not just upgrade?

As said,

SZR660
FZR250
TZR125RR (only some models)

Amongst many others......

Will all fit relatively easily, I've got TZR125RR 4dl wheels fitted to my TDR250. The rear is a 3.5 inch and runs a 140 section, the SZR660 is the widest iirc at 4" which allows you to run a 150.

Having a 150 rear and 110 front on the tzr250 won't have any deterimental effect to its handling. In fact, its what a lot of racers YPM and Forgotten Era go for (well with the tdr's anyway and as big as the rules allow).

Ta,
Jack

Hi

Cutoff point where radials tend to start and cross plies stop is about a 150 rear (few 140s) but the TZR stock tyres are 100/80 17 front and a 120/80 18 rear.

While you might get a radial front squeezed on by only going up one size you will struggle with a rear on that skinny rim (and a radial front with a cross ply rear is not road legal).

All the best

Keith

When I had a TZR250 someone had wedged a 150section rear tyre on it. Looked meaty, and seemed to fit. Although I never actually rode it.
