You only see a small chip and scrape, it's what you can't see which could cause a problem.
The scrape and chip have effectively weakened that section of the helmet, and if they happen to be the bit that touches down first in an accident then they could lead to failure of the outer shell.
It's up you you mate, you will get loads of different opinions ... it could be perfectly safe, on the other hand it may not be |

If its Arai then there is a good chance it is ok - Ive seen so many Arai's come back in real poor shape but have been cleared for road use still.
But get it checked out, its a 5 year warrantee - If you have the recept (Arai only) Then send it back.
Takes about a week |

I personally am convinced there is a load of rot talked about the dropping of helmets.
The polystyrene protects your head by compressing between your head and the road, slowing down the impact and thereby reducing the maximum G your head is subjected to.
If you drop a helmet with no head in it, there is nothing to compress the polystyrene and I don't see why the impact reduction properties should be significantly reduced. Even if the impact actually split the polystyrene into a few chunks, it still ought to have the same compressable properties providing it remains in the correct place (ie between your head and the road).
Once again, I'd put money on them NOT having tested helmets to see if dropping them alters their protective properties. After all, somewhat over 60% of the people who posted in this thread say they would replace it. Must sell a hell of a lot of lids on the back of them being dropped. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I'll give you a fiver for it. I still use an helmet I brought in 1984.
Its a waste of time asking on here. You'll either get the brainwashed masses who believe that £1000 of leather and plastic will make them immortal or me and the other half dozen halfwits that would prefer to ride in just their pants.
The only person who matters is you. If you feel uncomfortable or nervous then your riding will suffer. Not one person on here can tell you what damage, if any, your helmet has suffered. ____________________ https://www.metacafe.com/watch/1972097/how_to_behave_on_a_forum/ |

I've crashed in two helmets. And both have been dropped several times and quite high heights.
First one I ended up smacking my head against a car door at 30. Nothing wrong there.
Second one when the Hornet pole vaulted and I landed on my head from a 9ft drop at about 50 or so.
And I'm fine. No headache, concussions or anything.
The whole dropping thing is bollocks to me. Unless something heavy was inside (not your gloves) ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

All the talk about replacing a helmet which has been dropped/crashed is talking about the worst case scenario, i.e it's damaged and it splist during an accident due to the damage.
Yes I'd probably agree that the majority of helmets are more than safe even after a drop/crash, but there is a chance it could fail ... a chance no matter how small is still a chance.
It's all down to how you view your life ... think of it another way, would you take your kid out on the bike with a helmet which has been dropped/crashed?
It's all about risk ... how much risk do you want to take?
And yes, I've used a helmet with chips/scrapes on it, but if I was involved in an accident and my nut hit the ground and the helmet was damaged then I'd replace it |
