i have been told that the 2005+ XR400 only has 30bhp, does this mean i could get one on a 33bhp restriction licence without restricting it

Yea it would be fine as it puts out the following
30 hp (22.4 kw ) the limit is 25kw output on a A2 restricted licence.

So you're asking if a bike that makes 30bhp is under 33bhp?

Do they not teach maths at school these days? Smile

(they obviously don't teach English. 'Except from' doesn't make sense, 'apart from' would make sense, or 'except for'. {edit})

I would check power to weight ratio though (max. 0.16 kW/kg), there is a limit on this too.

I don't think it will be a problem. Its supposedly a problem on an RS125, but in reality they don't actually make 33bhp so the maths works out OK.

Hi

Kerb weight is 129kg (from an autodata book), so based on that you could have up to 28hp.

Although whether the claimed weight is vaguely accurate is another question.

All the best

Keith

Claimed weight will be way under the reality. Plus it's rare enough for the police to even know the law on restricted bikes, let alone check the power.. so how rare do you think it is that they'll check the power, weigh the bike and work out the power to weight ratio? Razz

You're not talking about a full power R6 though, you're talking about an XR400.

Not always because most of the coppers don't know about the restriction. Wink

Varies from manufacturer although most weigh it dry.

Honda have taken to quoting kerb weights recently, which is all fluids bar fuel IIRC.

You know PL10 - without L plates is worth 3 points per offence right?

Weight I gave was the kerb weight.

However one issue is that I haven't seen anything which says where the power is measured for teh 25kW limit, or what weight is specified to be used for the power to weight ratio. While you could argue it is the fully fueled wieght with the rear wheel power, just as legitimatly the police could claim it is the dry weight and the crankshaft power figure (ie, about 10% higher than a dyno figure).

All the best

Keith

3 points per offence, so with no L plates that would be 6 points immediatly.

All the best

As Keith says 3 points per, and it's damn difficult to get away with it when you have lost both plates. Best hope the Officer has had a blowjob that morning. Laughing

However as long as you know the score and there is no whining if you get caught then it is all sweet. Thumbs Up
