Personally I'm not a big fan of Valentines day. Might stretch to taking my socks off before making love to make it a bit more special, but that's about it.

Seriously though, I'm pretty cynical about any 'day'. Bollocks if someone is telling me when I should take my girlfriend out. It's basically just a massive globally orchestrated version of those annoying rose sellers on holiday; "What don't you want to buy a rose? But it's your girlfriend, don't you love her or something?". Fcuk off.

Anyone else feel like this, or am I just a miserable bastard?

Fuck it off. Another day invented by Clintons to keep their profit margins high during February. Middle Finger

Good excuse to get another shag in, if nothing else Cool Thumbs Up

I don't really subscribe to it in general, at least not for actual loved ones. I wouldn't go out and buy a card for me fella.

But I might send one to someone I fancied, just for the hell of it - in the mentality of how it was ORIGINALLY supposed to mean Valentines Day, where you send surprise Valentine cards to peeps you fancy (sorry Minhdinh, I've already got someone in mind, LOL)

... and I would be cross if any messrs hellkat went out and bought me some flowers on that day as opposed to any other day of the year, although if someone sent me some who I had no idea, and it wasn't any of my regular geezers, I'd be quite pleased (but I prolly wouldn't shag 'em, unless maybe if I was single, but then again ... well, depends, really ... LOL, confused yet?? typical female mentality).

Although if ANYone turned up with flowers that they had picked (rather than bought) as a Valentine gift, or indeed, on ANY day of the year ... I'd be more inclined to consider them in a very positive light.

You've had your quota for the year already!

It's ok, I received an email from Sainsbury's informing me that they have reduced the price of strawberries especially so people can stay in for Valentine's day.

Seems so far I'm the only one to 'embrace' it! Shocked What a bunch of lowlife, selfish, self-centered, boring, tight cvnts you all are! Laughing

I've just gone out and bought my missus some decent pressies and ordered the flowers a couple of days ago to be delivered in the next couple of days. I know she'll appreciate it and it'll make her feel good, what's the harm in that. So what if Clinton's etc make money on the back of it, I don't care about that - what's more important is making th missus feel special and valued. Cool

We're off out for a nice meal, but neither of us are bothered about buying presents. Cards yes, but wont waste money on presents.

Thumbs Up

got him 2 t-shirts. 1 with "average joe's", 2nd with "purple cobras" (to any Dodgeball fans..you should know what i'm talking about)...so he can pick which team he wants to be in.

We're off to borough market and stock up on ostrich burgers for lunch. See whats on offer and cook a big feast together in the evening Thumbs Up
v.day doesn't always mean expensive presents or cheesy red roses and chocolates IMO.

Naaaaah ... nowt wrong with being a lovely husband, fella Mr. Green Thumbs Up

I embrace it, I just don't go out spending wodge on that specific day, when I spend wodge on the people I love all year round.

Plus, a bunch of flowers whether bought or hand-picked out of a passing garden on, say (randomly) October 18 is more romantic than on Feb 14, cos it means you haven't been prompted by said commercialism to think of the person you love. You just saw the flowers and knew s/he would like them.

(yes I often pick flowers for messrs hellkat)

Until she realises you only did it because you were prompted by a date in the calender rather than of your own free will and sentiment.

Then the tears of happiness will transform into a salty poison that stings the eye and burns the skin.

(okay last bit was a bit dramatic)

Lol, well hellkat it's got nothing to do with the mortgage situation. I just keep a good eye on the HotUKDeals website and got a half price offer of flowers to be delivered - don't wanna go over the top now do I! Razz Wink

And skluff, so do you get a xmas tree midway during the year and pretend it's xmas at the spur of the moment - buy presents and stick them under the tree even in the middle of July? Or perhaps suddenly decide it's your birthday on any given day of the year and expect people to celebrate with you? Or do you celebrate these days because you were 'prompted by a date in the calender '!! Shocked

Valentine's is just another day of celebration, just like Bonfire night, xmas or birthdays. Doesn't mean you have to stick to these days to buy pressies etc, it's just good to use them as they were meant! Thumbs Up

I know a working girl who used to do that.

She was so pleased by the number of presents/flowers her punters bought for her on her birthday, she used to occasionally tell newer punters it was her birthday soon, just so she could get more gifts.

Eventually a few cottoned on that she was stringing them along, but she's such a little cutie that you can't be mad with her for long Laughing

Well being with her for 4 years we didnt do nothing special.
Its just another day.
I would cook for her which is better then going out wasting a bunch of money for some food that was over priced from the day before.
