Yellow or at least certain tints of yellow increase contrast, thus making it easier to spot things. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Amber is for low sun days to cut the glare as much as possible.
Yellow is actually High Definition Yellow and is designed for dull and gloomy days. The HD Yellow insert effectively drags out the edges and details of your surroundings better, allowing you to see more clearly.
Next time your in a shop, hold them both up infront of you and you will notice the difference ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

Also - it is also worth thinking about what type of insert would suit you better.
If you ride an upright, traditional style bike, then the standard pinlock insert will be perfect.
However, if you ride a sports bike, where you are leant forward, you may want to ask about "High Rise" / "Race" inserts. These inserts cover a larger area of the visor, extending to the top of the visor rather than stopping a little below. This isnt realy needed on taller bikes, but when your leaning forward it can realy help. When leaning forward you tend to look through a different point of your visor, nearer the top - as your head is tilted as such. With a standard insert, you can end up staring straight through the top of the insert, where as the race insert will allow you to look where you normally look, and still cover your vision patch with the insert.

Had a reactive one in the old lid that took a lot of the glare out. Yellow/orange ones are like ski goggles as they'll cut out the glare.
Anyone got a plarised filter? Just got the new shoei XR lid and came with a plain visor, and bought a tinted one as well. The best sunglasses I ever had were not particularly dark but polarised, so if there's an insert that'll do the same then I'm all up for one..

Oh, got a spare arai condor visor (with plain insert) if anyone wants it. Pulled it off my trashed lid after scudding the back of it on the road. Perfect condition and only had 3 days usage... ____________________ What's my New Year's resolution?

I have a dark pinlock insert that I use in my clear visor on a sunny day as sometimes I can't be bothered to carry my tinted and clear visor and I know I'll be riding home in the dark - that's all! ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'

I can't offer advice on the Pinlock branded yellow inserts but I did use a FogCity High Definition yellow insert on my old Shoei helmet for commuting one winter.
During dusk and dawn it does make a slight difference and made the gloomy surroundings much brighter and easier to pick out other vehicles and cyclists etc, although I actually found it a hinderance during normal daylight on bright days - I just couldn't adapt and found myself opening the visor at every opportunity. To be fair, I tend to do that anyway but with a clear visor I am less likely to have to lift it up in heavy rain.
So a general from me regarding gloomy conditions and transitional periods of low light but a in normal conditions.

I've got a tinted one on my Arai condor and it works brilliantly ... well it used to. I've taken it out a few times though to clean it and it doesn't seem to quite bend or stick around it's bottom edge now, so it does steam up a bit around the bottom when it's particularly wet or cold.
So my advice is get one but don't take it out too often, if at all, if you can help it. ____________________ Bike - '98 Yamaha YZF600 Thundercat Pics

I have amber and it is pretty good at night and day time when you get use to it. However, I find the glare is still pretty bad when the sun is on you. Polarised lenses are the only things for glare really, but i hate specs.
The clear is great imo. It's really nice to see clearly at night with true colours instead of an amber tone everywhere. ____________________ Hit the G spot. |
