Evening all,

Just a little question... Was going down the A64 to college the other day and some Audi shoots past me in the outside line, right next to a lay by with a marked volvo police car sitting inside it. I was at 70 so this guy was a fair bit over, about 90 ish i'd say.

Was curious why he didnt get pullled over, do those guys have cameras in the cars or anything? I thought it was just speed guns so it seemed odd that they didnt chase him Thumbs Up

My Dad's been doing his police advanced driving in an unmarked Audi Quattro. Doing 160mph on the motorway at times.

It was possibly an unmarked police car.

They are always "testing" unmarked cars on the M54 near Wolverhampton inn the early hours.

My Dad was on a course with a test at the end of it. He was doing the practicing and training in an Audi. Then the main test in a Volvo.

had to do 30 in a 30, 40 in a 40 etc.
But national speed he had to go as fast as he safely could.

If there was a marked car following the Audi, Without sirens on. And the Audi looked reasonably new. I'd say they were training.

They probably had ANPR going but not necessarily speed monitoring unless they were using the handheld laser speed measuring thingy.

There's a million reasons why they might not have gone after the driver.

Why would the police be able to drive down the motorway at 160MPH without blues and twos or anything.

I got pulled the other day for doing 50 - 60 in a 30 in the car and said to thge woman who was driving, that surely as you were doing 50 as well as i could see you were keeping up with me, that you were breaking the law as you didnt have no lights or siren on. They had nothing to say about that and soon fucked off without even giving me a warning.

Matt police are exempt from certain road traffic laws, and are not obliged to put siren/ lights on. If u think u scared them off by what u said then i think u have to take a deep look at yourself

Pretty sure they're not exempt as such from any traffic laws, with or without blues 'n' twos, not sure how to describe it without sounding like an idiot so im not going to try.

Think u will find they are mate, other wise they would sit at every red light , despite an emergency, in case they got done, or if they were chasing someone who was exceeding the speed limit etc etc .
Not having a go, just saying if you were speeding i'm sure they would be within their rights to break the speed limit to stop u and therefore your questioning their speed is not likely to put them off their breakfast let alone giving u a ticket. Unless u pulled a scarry face at the same time ?
Plus factors - you got off without a ticket and no one got hurt

Like i said im going to sound like an idiot if i try and explain my thinking but im sure exempt isnt exactly the right word, Traffic laws do still apply though im sure of it, I really cant think of the words to explain what im thinking so im going to shut up for now, too much drinking lately has turned my brain to mush Laughing

Maybe someone else will come along and explain what i mean, or as likely as not proove me completely wrong Laughing

meh. to be continued if my brain returns sometime.

Quick google prooves myself wrong on at least the speeding front...

link

c_dug

edit: Thinking about it that is so stupid, A driver in training is allowed to do 160mph, I bet if any one of us were caught at that speed we'd be infront of a judge before (insert cliche here). And i'd bet that several members of this forum (myself not included) have more experience at those sort of speeds than half of the "trained" police force. Seriously think of all the fluffy kittens that may have jumped out infront of him, oh wait they wouldnt because he's "specialy trained" and not an evil biker out to destroy the world.

Rant over Confused Laughing

You don't have to have the lights and sirens on in order to use traffic law exemption.

Although it's very much recommended for going through red lights, and in heavy traffic etc.

On the way to London a few weeks back I saw a car with a man driving getting pulled by an unmarked police car on the motorway, had his wife and kids all in the car probably going for a day out somewhere.
Yet I've seen police cars just let speeding chavs go by.
The reason?
Because they know that a family car will not give chase where as chav scum will.
This in itself is quite scummy, at least in my opinion.

Or maybe in the hope that Darwin takes care of speeding chavs instead.

See that police camera shite the other night?

Some chav on a blade 900. Cops wanted to do a stop check and guy just beaned it on the blade.

Cops put on their sun glasses and were like "We're not going to bother giving chase, it's just pointless" Which it is if the guys not intending to stop but discriminatory to other road uses who perhaps don't have the balls to do such a thing and abide by the law and pull over when asked.

Now everytime I see a police car I'm going to be imagining the horde of scooters screaming after it, like a pack of rabid lemmings Sad
