Any particular model reccomendations/warnings?
I was looking at an FZR6 "streetfighter" the other day which was basically just fairingless, but tastefully done, that was going for about £600 I think, which looked pretty good to me. Any reason FZRs seem to be a little cheaper than equivilent age 600s?
Was also looking at getting an RF900 but they seem a little out of my price range, plus I couldn't bear me and the old man having matching bikes ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.

Sounds good to me.
I am only 17, but I have ridden thou's before and reckon I can handle them, even if I can't get the absolute best out of 'em. The hard bit is convincing my mum I'm not going to die ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.

Just go for a 600 mate, Ham's recommendation is the best so far. Plenty of poke for the road (dont really care if you've ridden thou's, you wotn have ridden any fairly decent bike to its proper "limit"), fairly easy to work on, parts plentiful, fairly cheap, and good fun
An old steelie or early zx6r would be sweet.

Where are people getting these bikes from?
I've been looking at G2's and they all come in at about £1400, and all the F1's I can find have either been crashed or broken.
Although my only source is fleabay which probably isn't the cheapest place. ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.

Yeah, I was gonna say you wanna be looking at more Titz kind of age if youre looking at 6r's. 95/96 should see you about right with price Moonie.
Just found this after a few secs, but obviously you gotta do yaself some decent searching.
Clicky 6r
tried bike trader or your local paper etc? ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

ZXR750's
Not zx7rs...different bike. Less pricey etc
Not much more power than a zx6r (if any) but more in your price range, a bit older. Obviously some savvy when looking to make sure you dont get a complete shitter, and perraps some TLC but the H and later L models were nice bikes.
Im only looking at roughly what I know, theres old GSXR 750's like Bluex suggested etc
I'd personally get it restricted for a little bit (a few months like) and then whop em out and be on your way. Im not starting a restriction war however, I juust reckon its a bit more responsible if you KNOW you're a bit of a mad-head on a bike. I arent at all. ( )
Fuck the full two years though, thats just retarded.
Just my opinion and no doubt I'll regret it when the replies swim in ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

Nice one Fawbish
I was thinking about restrictions, reckon I'll probably do just that, as even though I have ridden big full power bikes, I haven't ridden them that much and have still had a couple of close calls, and I know I won't be able to resist going flat-out everywhere.
I was wondering about ZXR750s actually, but have been told they handle like sheds. Of course this was when I had about double my budget, now it's not really a concern tbh. ____________________ Don't practice it until you get it right, practice it until you don't get it wrong.

You needed to muscle the bike around a bit because it's neutral handling, but it's a good first big bike, very sure footed and forgiving; nowhere near as flighty as the blade! If they made modern 600's like them, i'd definitely buy one. Buy on condition rather than age. Check if your bike has a sorted shock & stainless steel pipes - this applies to ALL of your choices since in most cases the mild steel pipes would have rotted through and your shocks would have sagged!
My 6R was well sorted and it was a shame to let her go, but I fancied something newer and more "bling" |
I dont think the handling is that neutral, and I've definitely had some seriously scary times on the G2 when pushing it a bit hard. However, might I ask, did you always have a 60 profile on the front tyre Titz? Because I've discovered that a 70 profile does the bike wonders, turns in quicker and sticks to a line more easily.
Also, I went for something more bling also, an '04 Speed Four *shakes head* No idea what I was thinking. (Not a slight against Speed Fours. Cracking bikes. Its just not exactly an "upgrade" (although FI is nice))
Then promptly broke the bastard. ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

It's not a 600, but there's a guy on another forum I visit selling a 400 that looks to be in good condition with lots of work done to it:
https://www.xrv.org.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=34793
only slightly over £1000 (and maybe he would accept an offer if you asked).
I don't know about those sorts of bikes, but might be worth a look at least. |

Reckon I'm gonna try and go for a ZXR750. I do love Kawasaki's, and it's a cool looking bike which sounds to be good for it's age.
Cheers for the link on the 400 but I want something 600+ really.
