Looks like CE body armour to me. Most body armour is nothing more than a bit of foam anyway.
The stuff you just bought is just a fancy looking bit of foam. The plastic on the outside is to stop the foam being damaged, it will do exactly squat in terms of absorbing the energy from an impact.
Same way as a motorbike helmet is just a glorified bit of expanded polystyrene. They harp on about the shell materials but that is just there to hold the polystyrene in place.
I have it on good authority that a Marks and Spencer cheese sandwich absorbs sufficient impact energy to pass the requirements of the CE body armour standard. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. But if the shell doesn't last the polystyrene wont last and the whole operation is pointless.
I had the same thing N30, just got my dad to bring up the back protector from my old jacket, was a right pig trying to get it in but still feels better than the flimsy foam that was in there before. ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

Rubbish polystyrene or not , they still act as an excellent barrier between you and the road.
In that my 105mph face down slide would have been terribly messy had I not had a helmet on, ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Anyone else took the original back ''foam'' out of their leathers if they have a back protector?
Makes a big difference if one has over-eaten during winter and neglected the exercise |

Two schools of thought on this that , if you were not protected as well you would ride more sensibly....but again you cannot account for all circumstances and things happen and although riding carefully can mitigate plenty they can't mitigate them all, ie being hit and run a couple years ago now , ironically if I had gunned the gas I'd have not been hit, and in Spain where a cop swiped me and pushed me into a gravel trap.
But then I have some anedotal evidence my knees , I came off and fell on my left knee unprotected it bruised badly and hurt quite badly for a while on the coldest of days it aches a bit.
I had an almost identical off but on my right knee which had a CE protector on it this knee was slightly red but and hurt slightly and no longer hurts at all and is fine.
Same again with my fast face down slide the first thing that went down was my shoulder the dainese suit used combined hard outer shell and soft inner shell protectors I took the protector out and it had a crack across it and it had worked in absorbing some of the initial shock so that there wasn't enough energy passing through to break my shoulder.
Although the pragmatic better to have it than not arguement is used by Man made climate change supporter , totalitarian law makers, insurance sales men , ABS manufacturers and 'advanced' helmet tech manufacturers. I'm semi swayed by it a bit , and its not as if its cost me any extra anyway bar maybe the forcefield S2 as the jackets and leathers have always had them in when I bought them anyway. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
