Will it be okay to use an old squash bottle, or will this not be up for the job? A coke can or two?

I don't really want to pay for anything.

Ideally though you'd want to put a top/cap on it to stop it being exposed to moisture in the air.

I've got a coke bottle for mine.

Well you shouldn't really reuse brake fluid, if there's a reason to drain it then put new stuff in, Dot4 is only a £2-3 for 500ml. Waste stuff you can put in anything except the cat, it kills them.

I'm going to re-use mine as it's brand new fluid.

I'm not entirely sure to be honest, they say don't throw it down drains or in hedges but to dispose of it properly yet I don't quite know who takes used brake fluid or coolant other than paying a garage to take it. Civic Amenity sites only have facilities for used engine oil. I personally put it in sealed bottles and bin it, if you throw it on your garden you will notice that anything growing there will soon be dead.

Two things.

1. Why re-use? The only reason I can think of for possibly re using brake fluid would be if you're very tight, and changing your brake lines or something. Re-using it is still a bad plan, just see this as a good time to really clean out your system.

2. I stick mine in with my waste engine oil, which gradually accumulates in 25L drums. It will burn with a little encouragement.

Capture it ? why? it tends to leak out anyway when I clean my brakes pop the pistons and it goes all over the cardboard sheet I've laid down , and I toss the sheet later on, heh don't get it onto concrete flags though as it stains it like grease for months.

Yes they do, brake fluid funnily enough is not oil though.

I use half a 2 litre coke bottle to catch my old fluid. Then I pour it into the drain with lots of water. Its an outside storm drain so I doubt it goes anywhere of consequence. Probably just to my kitchen tap...

It's not worth it, will be exposed to moisture in the air while you are pumping the brake out. Play safe and ditch, you wouldn't reuse a condom would you?

If you put it in a coke bottle then aren't you actually better off chucking the bottle out with the rubbish?

Place a bar of chocolate on the garage floor and hide in the corner.
When a bottle of brake fluid comes along and takes the bait, leap out and get it in a headlock, subdue it with a few sharp taps from a reasonably heavy hammer.

Coat. Door. Gone.

It's exposed to air as it goes into the brake reservoir, so in my eyes, it doesn't really matter.

At the recycle depot (tip) near me there is a used engine fluids unit where you can pour in such wastes.

I just use an old coffee jar, I have the bleed hose going through a hole in the lid so it doesn't go everywhere if I knock it over. Worked really well when I did them a few weeks ago.

The local tip just told me to chuck it in general waste - along with small amounts of old petrol and diesel that I had in jars.
