How often do you change your spark plugs?

I just changed one in my RS125 after 1600 miles and there is a HUGE improvement. The bike runs smoothly and quicker than ever really (tested on the same road as always).

Maybe because the old one looks like this..

I'm going to change spark plugs more often.

You could use that plug again. Just needs a clean.

Make sure the gaps right as well!
but depends on how your bikes running as to when they need to be changed, with my ill set up over fueling 50, although it sounded nice and was reasonably fast in terms of 50's, used to be every month or so itd need a new one

But with a standard bike with the jetting standard etc, i would hope for 6 months or more?

Hi

Wouldn't expect it to be that bad after only 1600 miles. Maybe if you do a hell of a lot of low speed work. Is the bike restricted? Which plug have you got fitted?

It was BR8ES in restricted bike.. All 1600 miles in winter time which means choke a bit, warming up for a while (10 minutes or so in low revs), then riding like a granny (for another 10 lol).. then revving it a bit once it's warm enough. And I must add that first 600 miles the bike was in break-in period so I didn't rev it more than 6k.

I will see how it will be going now.. The weather is better now and no more breaking-in

I'm surprised that with that plug the bike never failed to start.. it had the right to do so

Less seriously.. On my favourite private road when I basically ride as fast as the bike can (which is obviously not fast ) I remember just after run in period the bike was doing 83-85mph in one place (slightly down the hill in one place - sort of point of measurement of my bike condition lol).. Lately it hardly was reaching damn 80mph and acceleration was not so good so I was wondering why. Once I changed the plug on the same day I got 86mph there (never been that fast before lol).. WOOHOO

Oh and by the way..

Are Iridium plugs better than standard BR8ES?

Manual says I can use BR10EG plugs in FP RS125. Can I use them in restricted bike too? I was reading about plugs and cooler ones seem to be safer for the engine

No point using an iridium plug in a 2 stroke. As the plug you have just removed from your bike proves, it won't last long but costs 4 times as much.

You're best just fitting the recommended plug. If it was going to do any damage to the engine, Aprilia wouldn't have fitted it.

I 'd put a slightly hotter plug in that to see if it helps with the fouling. Try a 7 next time rather than a 8.

If you let your bike idle for a while then will get the fouling like that.

I am sure it wouldn't take long to clean, all you'd need is a wire brush.

I've saved broken spark plugs with my Redex spark plug wire brush.
