Its supposed to be £1 a litre as the red dye is added to indicate it is agricultural.
In Cornwall a fair few people used it and I witnessed a few people get caught using it also, in effect that you are supposed to prove that you only just put one tank in , else they'll be nasty and use your last MOT and estimate that you've used that many miles of red diesel...
There was some controversy years and years ago about green diesel and that a dye was added to red diesel to make it look like green diesel , but I completely forget what it was about , other than it was said to do something bad to the engine bare in mind this was early 90s story I recall.
Dunno why you don't use veg oil , the law has changed on fuel and you are allowed to manufacture 1500 litres of the stuff, but still have to pay tax on it or something, I forget the exact regs. But then again food price inflation (and thus veg oil price) means that veg oil ain't cheap 15 litre drum of pride costs £13.85, which is marginally cheaper than diesel. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. I've never seen a road fuel testing outfit and I imagine they mainly go after HGVs and vans rather than private cars, I personally cannot see you ever getting caught.
I also cannot see why they would estimate your mileage using your last MOT, whos' to say you were running regular diesel when you went for MOT, they don't test it. Like to know where you gained that information, as far as I know it is a fine that they make up.
I believe you're allowed to use 1500litres a year of alternative diesel (veg oil) and don't have to pay tax on it, but it's expensive to to make it useable and a lot of cars can't cope.
I noticed Morrisons are selling Biodiesel at the pumps in Redditch, its 99.9p a litre, exactly the same price as regular diesel, I asked him who the hell would buy it when it's the same price and risk thick fuel in cold weather and possibly issues with fuel pumps, the answer was they sell about 20litres a day from their 11,000litre tank.... |
