Cruise Control

About 2 years ago my old man had a heart attack, then a triple heart bypass, he had veins taken out of his right arm and left leg. When riding long distances he finds it hard to hold the accelerator all the time. Obviously this is an issue.

Can you get cruise control added to a bike?

Yes you can, they are about £80 nearly fitted one to my CBR , its sort of like a normal throttle grip but with two switches on it that look like choke switches, you roll it to the desired throttle amount then lock it in place.

You then push the other switch thing and it releases it.

Ged doesn't trust them though as he said he had one lock up on him and his bike was revving away but then again this was one he made himself.

Ive got a cable tie in between the switchgear and the rubber off the grip and that works perfectly, Im not advocating it as a safe way of making a cruise control, but as a practice to see if he can get used to cruise control (its a bit wierd to get used to) then its worth a go.

I have full cruise control on my wing. Used it a few times to see if it worked and to give my right hand a rest on motorways. In normal use I hate it, it has a life of its own. The bike accelerates and decelearates to keep the same speed when you go up or down hills or when the wind affects you etc, but its not smooth. If you have it set at 60 the bike will drop to 55 going up a hill, then suddenly surge forward then drop off the gas when it gets above 60.

Very weird.

I suppose you would get used to it, or be able to fine tune it to smooth it out if you were reliant on it.
