That won't work. The battery has nothing to do with the spark on an H100, they have a self-exciting ignition. It should start and run even with the battery disconected.
Checked the spark, so I assume there was a nice, fat blue spark? If in doubt, change the plug anyway.
After kicking it for half an hour there should be a strong smell of petrol and the end of the plug should be wet with fuel. Is it?
Has it been running recently or is this the first time you started it for a while? ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

if the carb is blocked is there any way to check without ripping the bastard off, will nip down and check the fuel pipe going into the carb. ____________________ Yamaha Tdm850

If the jets are clean, fuel is getting through and it is making a spark, there is not much else it can be.
Maybe the spark isn't everything it might be. Check the plug cap is in good nick, check the coil is well earthed to the frame, check there is no muck on the connector.
Might also be worth giving the contact faces of the points a clean up with some fine emery paper or a points file.
If you are absolutely happy it is getting fuel and has a spark, maybe check the static timing, there is no seperate adjustment for this, you just set the gap and hope it is in the right ball park. A worn set of points with the correct gap leads to the ignition being too far advanced = Flying machine while running but utter bastard to start.
Points are a piece of piss to change BUT you do need a rotor puller. A genuine Honda rotor pulling tool costs about a tenner, don't even think about trying to do it without one, take it from me, it is simply not worth the hassle. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. | robert mack wrote: | just checked it and defo getting a spark. it must be the points although they look fine and clean. im totally stumped. |
lol, did you think that through???
if its sparking, then its definitely not the points,
they are the old skool equivalent of a cdi.
if it sparks then the points are opening.
i would pull the carb off again, remove all the jets soak them in kerosene or carb cleaner,
blow through all the holes with compressed air or carb cleaner,
the try again,
if still not starting, then pull the barrel off, its just 4 bolts after all,
and check the piston rings and the bore to make sure that all is good,
you need a good seal on the rings for the piston to suck fuel through the carb ____________________ the humans are dead

surely if the plug is wet with fuel then that's a good sign that there is compression?. i will give the carb a good going over tonight ____________________ Yamaha Tdm850

just done a pikey compression test seems ok . it was blowing my thumb off the top of the head. checked carb jets and they are ok, as in not blocked. the only optio left to do is change the points. in the words of toyah "oh its a mystery" ____________________ Yamaha Tdm850
