Aprilia Tuono owners?

Eyeing up my next bike, I am settled on an Aprilia. Originally a Falco but I'm swaying more to pay a bit extra and get a Tuono as I think it may be a bit more comfortable for long distance/tours etc.

Bike is only used for fun, no commuting or work or rainy days. After a 2003 model. Don't like the new ones. The 03's in red and gold are the nicest!

All I've seen/read so far is that its an excellent bike, but hoping for some more info like tank range? reliability etc etc? anyone been touring on one? what they like for pillions? anything I should know?

p.s I 100% want a v twin, it's now rounded down to just Aprilia, so it's between the falco and Tuono.. RSV is too race orientated for what I want.

Don't own one, but have ridden one...not sure about being more combortable than the falco; its the RSV with no fairing and flat bars; not that I found it uncomfortable, but rearsets are retained.

So other than that what applies to the RSV will apply to this; re tank range and pillions etc

Will definitely tick the fun box though!

The one in the picture is a standard Tuono. If it's anything like the RSV and RSVR, then the R has Ohlins Suspension all round and lightweight wheels. Should have carbon fiber bits and bobs too.

When I was looking for my RSV I found that Tuono's were generally more expensive than the RSV, would it be worth getting an RSV and putting some high clip-ons on?

Torn between getting something purely suited to touring or something a bit more fun... thing is, I don't ride /that/ much and due to work I can't do any major touring anyways so I think the Tuono would fit the bill more as a compromise.. fun and capable at touring, just probably not the cheapest bike to tour on..

Hmmm any info on miles to the tank ? from rsv or tuono owners Smile

I have a 2008 Tuono R (not factory, Ohlins etc) so have no experience of the older ones. I changed form a GSXR 1000 K5 and do not regret it at all. I loved the gixer but I have more 'fun' on the T. Easier in traffic, great on the twisties etc. Have had a bit of a tour on it down to Devon and it was most excellent. Obviously a bit of wind blast but nothing you can't cope with.

The tank range was about 130 to the light...before I put the Akras on, now I get about 90 to the light; that said I need to get it put to map 2 and that will improve it.

An RSVR with Renthals may not be a bad idea, it looks OK and you still retain the fairing if you are hooked on that look (there is a pic on VD in the RSVR show us yer bike thread). Personally its not for me, I love the look and feel of the T as it is.

Big grin factor all round.

Worth considering a Futura as well, under the skin it's the same bike as the rest of the millie/tuono/falco family, but with more weather protection and lazier power delivery. Still a very rapid bike though and imho way easier to hustle along than my SP1 that replaced it. They depreciated massively and you can pick up a tidy 03 plate with factory luggage for under 3 grand with a little hunting.

Short of a few comedy niggles (weak fuel line connector, italian wiring, underspecced battery) they are pretty bomb proof.

It's shockingly quiet for a litre twin though, factor in a set of BEF or Staintunes pipes if you want to give it back some attitude and volume.

Touring, check. This was taken in the Alps a year ago, when we arrived I think I was in less discomfort than my mate on an RSVR.

Tank range is normally 120 ish to the light, I was doing 115ish a day last year and it would normally get filled up before the light came on but any detour would have the light on before the petrol station.

They are a comfortable bike, the riding position for me is absolutely spot on, reach to the bars and arse to peg distance is spot on.

Knee down is a bit of a stretch and if you are a wheely merchant then this will keep you grinning propper.

This one just happens to be for sale 'cos I cant wheely for shit so I've bought a shaftie. Mr. Green

Yes mate, I had a 400 EXC but riding tonymoto left my knee in agony for weeks after so I basically stopped riding it, after a while I got rid of it cos it wasn't getting used Sad

anyway, my Tuono is just sitting in my shed atm waiting for the weather to get a bit warmer before I start advertising it, when I do it'll be going up for £3K.

Its bog standard with the exception on a D/b screen and clear indicators. I've owned it for 18 months, it had 4k on it when I got it.

17k miles on it now and generally in good nick, only one small scratch on the RHS tailpiece where the sidestand sunk into soft ground

the last service was the biggy, valve clearances and all fluids done at 14 something K, the tyres are shot but are going to be replaced before sale, the rear wheel bearings have just been replaced, in the time I've owned it I've had no problems with it apart from the wheel bearing, kept on an optimate it starts first time every time.

I honestly wish I could keep it but its not going to get used so there's no point it sitting there doing nothing. Sad
