Right, bike rode the entire way to work and back today fine.
Get off the motorway, brake for a roundabout, get back on the power and it starts burbling like its going on to reserve. Except it's still got half a tank.
I get in to a layby and it dies the moment I take my hand off the throttle.
Go to start it again, same thing, starts burbles and dies. Trying to rev it just led to more ashmatic noises.
However, with the choke on it started, shot to 5k and sat there racing away like it was about to take off.
Oil light was coming on when it cut off, but apparently this is normal. Wouldn't mind a second opinion though. Oil level seems fine, battery is fine, fuel is fine...
I had it clocked as airflow, carb flow or *shudder* oil seizure.
But what with the weird choke foible, and the oil level being fine... carb over haul?
Anything I could do with getting in to do it? ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |

Don't worry about the oil light coming on, that's normal on the CBR when the engine goes off as it is a pressure light as oppose to oil level.
Could it be a vacuum line's come off.
Sounds similar to what my GSXR did when I forgot to put a vacuum line back on. It would start up fine on the choke, but would instantly bog down if you touched the throttle. ____________________ My Flickr |

Arse. Need a good list of things to try on my day of Friday if I want itworking before next week. Which I do. Trains suck.
So we have breather/general hoses so far. What about stripping the carbs... what would I need to do it? ie, new gaskets? What to clean it with etc? ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Just been to check with the spare key, bike still doesn't start
Arse. Won't run with choke now either...
Any other options then stripping the rat bastard down? ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

I had a similar problem on a fzr600, a week after I bought it there was so much crap in the tank and lines and stuff. After it cut out, I just put a litre of redex in it, and let it burn the crap out. Of course this is no good to you because you can't get it started.
Obviously you've changed the fuel tap to reserve to make sure it's not just gunk in the 'on' pipey bits?

Ah, just took the battery off to charge and optimate reckons its a dead duck.
I'm going to leave it a bit more to see if it changes its mind, then pop down the road to the bike shops and grab a new one. See if that makes any odds.
Just to be certain, the ' ' face indicator means buy a new battery doesn't it? ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Sorted. Well, I know what it is.
Pour petrol in carb inlet pipe. Starts but runs crap (not enough fuel)
Pour petrol in fuel pump inlet pipe, it starts (cos I'd filled the carb inlet pipe) but runs crap and the level in the pump inlet doesn't move.
Swap relay (I had a spare, no joy)
Connect pump directly to battery, no pumpage.
So, case closed for now.
Do need some advice on cleaning a gammy fuel tank though, as that is probably the cause. Especially as the last funnel I used for petrol had some horrible white precipitate on it of unknown origin (probably from the petrol). I've some out in my old sump to see what nasties are left. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
