As the title says really.
Took the Tenere in for its 600 mile service on Wednesday.
Picked it up that evening, with a bill for £170! Looking at the invoice, they used, oil, filter, a gasket and some lube.
What I found extortion was the £75 p/h labour charge! It's not even that expensive at the BMW dealership! Not to mention, a 90 minute service, what did they do? Get a kid to service it? Even *I* can change the oil on a bike quicker than that! lol
Anyway, rant over. Whats the deal with warranties for motorbikes?
Do I *have* to take it to an authorised Yamaha dealer to keep the warranty? Or will a reputabe garage who stamp the book acceptable?
Cheers,

Hang on, you didn't get your first service labour free? I have never known the first service on a new bike to have a labour cost.
You will have to read the warranty to be sure of what dealer you have to take it to.
You have me worried a little now as I have taken my R1 for the 2nd service to a non Yamaha dealership. I will check this out tonight I think. ____________________ My current bikes are - YZF-R1 & GS 500 E

I know I can take my car to an independent garage for the service. Just wasn't sure if this was something the car industry and done to try and boost sales.
I suspect the service would have been free, but I bought the bike up in Newcastle as it was such a good price. Saved £1,200 on the list price.
Will be taking it to a guy some of the London IAM guys use. Dave Wilkins I think? ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

Call Yamaha up and complain about the charge for a 1st service.... They may well comeback and say it should only be a fixed price.
Also its not just a oil change, they should have checked all nuts and bolts to make sure they are still tight... ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

First service on the KTM was £300 or so ... however they do check the valves then, but still. If I'd taken it back to where I got it from (About an hour and a half's drive away at least) I'd have got it for half price or something. Woo. |

Metropolis in Vauxhall?,
They are terrible, The only thing i use them for are kawasaki spares and maybe their gear/lids, Sales/servicing i have heard nothing but bad things and when you go in there you can see the attitude people talk about, have a quick glance at some of these londonbiker threads:

I never take any bike to a dealer for services. I can understand if a person hasn't the mechanical aptitude to service their own bike - no shame in that - but what I struggle with is those who use the argument that they if have the bike dealer-serviced it will be worth more when they come to sell it. This is the daftest reason IMO because the cost of dealer servicing will far-outweigh any theoretical gains when it's time to sell. Having a dealer-serviced bike will be a buying-point for very few people and most will make a decision based on condition, mileage and age before service history. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Yeah she took my R1 out for a blast and LOVED it, so she went and chopped in her Bandit 12-- for a new GSXR1000. She is 55 years old on a massive bike, I will test her on ot mind. And make sire she drives it right. ____________________ My current bikes are - YZF-R1 & GS 500 E
