Refusing offers

Whats the general opinion on refusing the first offer an insurance company makes??

Is it wise to do, and what sort of a difference would it make. I had an accident last year and have just had a settlement figure through of £17,650 which includes personal injury, bike, helmet, gloves, loss of earnings, medication and transport bills etc.

Depends on the offer. people who say refuse the first never take this into consideration.

I have been paid out £2950 for equipment, minor injury and 4 days off of work in the past. Completely unwarranted amount which would have dropped had it gone to court.

What do your solicitors say about it? I'd say take their advice rather than the advice from BCF where people don't know about the injury, the cost of your bike, loss of earnings, or the other stuff.

i'm coming up to two years since i had an accident at work. Nowhere near an offer yet. I can't believe how long these things can drag on.

yeah never take the first offer, i got offered 700 quid and in the end ended up with 1300
i only paid 600 for the bike

I got offered a stupidly large sum of money apparently for my injury, so I accepted the first offer.

When I worked for an insurance company (Saga), often, the second offer would be less after we put some "consideration towards it", as we didn't make silly offers like some companies to. Unless the client provided evidence that the offer was small (eg, similar cars found in auto trader for more.)

without knowing the details. i'd total the cost of the bike/repairs against autotrader adverts then add lost earnings, should be easy enough to work out and then everything else. (not personal injury)

subtract that from the offer, this leaves you with an amount that i would say is for personal injury, if you are happy then go for it.

that or get advice from a solicitor
