Is this with the bike on the ground, or on the centre stand?

Oil between the friction plates causing drag, nothing to worry about.

I was very suprised yesterday when I started my 900 trophy after its winter lay up and the back wheel didn't spin when idling on the stand

make sure you haven't over tightened the chain though. An over tight chain causes resistance in the other direction causing unnecessary wear on the chain and sprockets.

Hi

Rare for chain slack to be meant to be less than an inch at the tightest point.

All the best

Just a note that it shouldn't be this as in neutral the clutch will be fully engaged Smile.

However, the same thing with the gears, I would presume.

Once things have warmed up this effect should reduce as oil viscosity changes with warm oil.
Nothing to worry about but must be kept in mind if working on the bike and some bellend starts the beast without warning when your handy-pops are entwined in the back end... Embarassed
Take the key out...
Or if you want to be pedant disconnect the battery.... Sad
