Spring is in the air. Time to wash the salt off my bike to see how well it's lasted. Been riding throughout winter, with the bike usually looking a little sorry for itself.

Bizzarely, throwing a bucket of water over the bike didn't really do much.

https://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51/whers84/DSC01429.jpg

My more 'thorough' cleaning efforts did however. Fiddly blighter to clean, so many more nooks and crannies than the R6 last year, plus OE bolts made of cheese (I've replaced as many as possible with stainless now) and a fairing you need to be a Krypton Factor Champion to remove. Got there in the end though. The bike's no longer immaculate - there's the odd stone chip and blemish here and there, a few marks of corrosion on the chain, but overall, it's survived a British winter.

Good job young man .... keep it up and you will soon be challenging me for the title of 'bestest cleaner of bikes and shizzle'.

Of course I see your post as a direct challenge and have therefore booked off Thursday to clean the bike.
You can expect numerous closeups of downpipes and rear shock, showing the mintness of my winter ridden, 16k miler, 6 year old bike Smile

Lasted me well for the 10k I had it for last winter. I do miss its superior build quality.

I still have much to learn. Angelic

How about a 26k bike with a hand polished everything?

Hmmm, I've never thought of charging anyone for cleaning - mind you, I only tend to clean my own bikes Wink

Nice, i just got in from Uni and since it was still light so gave the bike a clean, polish WD40. Amazing how much crap is everywhere and ive tried to minimise my miles over winter (and have been cleaning every now and then!)

Though, although mine is now never clean i only spent 45 mins on it so not quite up to your standard!!

Nice CBR, when you get that? You still got the VFR right? I hope you do as i love that bike....

Hi Andy. Certainly been a while. Hope the course is going well.

I picked up the CBR last June, as a replacement for the R6. Don't worry, I've still got the '30 too - I might even MOT it this week. Thumbs Up

Nice Cool Thumbs Up

My fairings are the same, too many hidden bolts and to take one off you have to take the others off too Laughing

Hope you don't mind me asking but in your R6 pics how did you get the pillion peg hangers to look like that? Mine are horrible as is pretty much everything apart from the fairings Laughing

Drooling

I think I just jizzed in my pants a little, the RR, the R6 and RVF all look utterly sexual. The CBR especially looks better by MILES after a clean! I hope I can spend afternoons/mornings cleaning my bike like that when I get one!

EDIT: I thought I'd add this youtube link to the thread because of the title Laughing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pXfHLUlZf4

Wish I could get my Speedy that immaculate. Sad
General wear and tear all over the bike, not much corrosion thankfully though.

Wish I could afford a re-spray. Damn Triumph soft paint!

Amen to that.

The part of my brain that controls 'wanting to have shiny clean things' and the part that controls 'can I be bothered to do that' are locked in constant battle.

That R6 isn't clean Craig, look at the state of the brake fluid in the rear reservoir! Laughing

Looking good though.

Narked me off constantly on that detail. Even after brand new fluid the bellows in the reservoir made the oil look 10 years old.

Now now Quacker, easy there.

The hangers' stock finish (a laquered satin finished aluminium) were retained with regular washing and dowsings of WD40. Nowadays I tend to use ACF50, but the CBR's hangers aren't laquered, which is an arse.

I have prepared my 'weapons' in advance of Fridays assault.
To be used in the following order:
Water, Sponge, MuckOff, Toothbrush, ACF50, Paint brush, ACF50 Oiled Rag + Plenty of Elbow Grease and some skinned knuckles.

I hope they're not going anywhere near your bodywork Wink

Apologies - for it has been 6 months since I last toothbrushed my bike - but I forgot the final finishing step.
All body work Carnauba Waxed and Buffed to a mirror finish.
