My '96 CBR600 sometimes stutters and loses power when I'm going along at motorway speeds on a constant light throttle. It'll just suddenly hesitate and then pick up again a second later. I was thinking fuel starvation or some kind of problem with the direct air induction system? Seems to be worse when I've just been spanking the bitch and then started cruising along.

Any other ideas before I start taking her to bits?

My xr does this after long periods at the same revs. I just ignore it.

(Not much help)

Totally standard apart from stainless downpipes (still has original silencer).

Silly as it might sound, is the airbox intake totally clear? If there's a small obstruction, it could just be that once you're moving at a certain speed, it displaces enough air to mess up the proper flow into the intake.

It is externally and the inside of the airbox was clear last time I had it open but I'll have another look.

The problem goes away instantly if I open the throttle a bit more though.

Fuel flow, then? Are the carbs clean?
