Hi, all just reading about some rideouts in europe, spain, france, belgium and germany etc... and i was looking for some help and info for a 1st timer !

Story is for the last 64 years my great uncle was just know on our local war memorial just as a name, rumours were that his plane went down and the bodies were never found.... a week ago i found out on the internet that he is accuatlly buried in durbach war cemetary in germany ! And after a week's intentive searching on the old web, i now know exactly where he crashed and what his missions were. And telling my auntie this information has had her in tears as NOBODY in the entire familys involved knew where or what happened to him...

So next year im planning on heading over there and visit the place where he went down and the cemetary on behalf of the familys and to pay my respects.

So (story bit over) i need to go to Bachenau, near heilbronn and then onto Durbach war cemetary and maybe on the way back take in a lap or two of the nurbergring, for my own pleasure.
Im not afraid of doing loads of miles in a day,i not to keen on camping but will if i have too,so B+B's will come into it !
What kind of time scale will i be looking at roughly,no day's for sightseeing except for the nurbergring, also roughly what costs should be prepared to pay for the entire trip ?
Also what advice and things to look out for while im over there, and whats the best time of year to make the journey ?
Luggage ? what to take and what type of luggage system for the gsxr ?

I know that this is ALOT of questions and being my first trip on the bike abroad, but i think its about time i started doing these types of things, and with this news on my great uncle its the time to do it.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Not been on a bike, but went earlier in the year in my Elise. Costs for just that

Tunnel Crossing is approx £95. Ferries are to be had for a little less.

Ringhaus Hotel (Cheap, very clean & is run by Frank who is very helpful. They also have a workshop too!) right next to the Ring too

Single £21.00 per night X 2 nights= £42.00 (approx)
Double £46.00 per night X 2 = £92.00 (approx)

Laps of The Ring: £10.91 per lap. The circuit is almost 13 miles in length, so depends on how many laps you want to do.

Roughly the weekend ends up costing around £500 - £650, which soley depends on your liking for drink, steak on a stone and petrol (was about 1,000 miles all in I think).

Takes about 4 hours once you're over in France, and we took in Spa on the way too. Bloody great time, going in July 08 again I loved it so much.

Hope that helps.

Paul

The only place you'll need to show your passport is the ferry/chunnel terminal.

Every village/town in Germany has good quality guesthouses (normally a restaurant with rooms) at reasonable prices and the food is nearly always excellent - particularly anything involving pork or steak Wink

It's very easy to cover ground quickly, although the Autobahns around the big cities can grind to a halt at peak times. Once you head cross country away from the tourist areas, there's little traffic.

It took me less than four hours to ride the 330 miles from Breganz in Austria to the Cochem in the Mosel (140 miles cross country and 190 miles on the Autobahn).
