I can't see why a bike with loads of top end power would wheelie better |

the bike isn't the problem, it's the owner TBH.
you need to get a long to a wheelie school and learn more techniques. ____________________ Turbo R1

It's not the bike, it's the rider and the technique.
V-twins are good for wheelies if anything!!
The reason you run out of power is not the bike, it's just the fact you've only got the front wheel about a foot off the ground! Get the wheel higher and you'll maintain the wheely for longer before running out of revs... then once you get high enough to find balance point, you'll be able to wheely as long as the road is without running out of revs....
Learn to clutch it up, more controlled and you can get the wheel higher at slower speed which means you find balance point at a slower speed so can maintain the wheely.
Also, clutching it up in 2nd gear means that even on power you'd go further than in 1st before running out of revs. ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Great!
This is the info i was looking for
so i am better off getting the bike to about 30mpg in 2nd then slipping the clutch ? rather than bringing it up in 1st off the power.
i am pretty sure your right in the fact im not getting the front wheel high enough
it does feel pretty savage when you slip the clutch on the SP though comapared to a 4 cylinder bike. Maybe i just need to get used to it a bit more
and save for some more tires
cheers |

cheers mate
i have watched that vid many times
and i made some progress my ex missus SRAD (thats not why she is an ex lol)
but a v-twin seems very differnt to me - maybe just cause its not as smooth, off the clutch seems really violent and jerky
im probably just being a pussy |

any bike will wheelie.
the way i learned was ''you have to do something with the clutch apparantly'' so i fiddled a bit, and thought ''awesome'' when the front of my 400 popped up a few inches once.
since then, work on it, method improves.
then all of a sudden it just clicks right there and then, and you can carry on for as long as neccesary (or thats what i found anyway0 ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. My last bike was a VTR Firestorm... V-twins are great for wheelying on.. you'll just have to learn to be a bit smoother with the controls... try letting the clutch out quickly rather than "dumping" it... it's like pulling away from the lights really quickly... only do it from a rolling start and give it some more revs.
Don't worry about speeds or revs, don't even look at the speedo... you can tell by feel... ride along in 2nd about 40ish, open the throttle quickly... around 40/50 ish mark you'll feel that "sweet spot" where you can accelerate quickly without it bogging....
That's the spot you want to let the clutch out really quickly whilst rolling on the revs....
Start with a small amount of revs and see what the bike does... then gradually increase... don't just give it a handful and see what happens!
Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I'm shattered and about to go to bed! ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

Strangely enough the XT600E wheelies quite well on just the power if you don't change up and the 2nd carb kicks in. And its a low power single.
I managed to loft the front of the Africa twin (which is scary as it is such a huge machine with such a big fairing you can't see jack). When I was putting it through its trials.
If you REALLY want to cheat , do what many stunters do and stick a dinner plate sized sprocket on the rear front will come up just accelerating like normal. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Pit bikes are fun to learn on.
Roll the power on in 2nd. Will lift on power alone. Get it to balance point and away you go.
I learnt on a Speedfight. Was handy because it had a rear hand operated brake.

Wait, your having trouble wheelying an sp1.
I had a mate that could keep it on the rear forever on an sp1 just practice.
