Well the mito has thrown somthing else at me again....


this time it apears to have a lot of gearbox oil all over the bottom of the engine Confused

and all this in JUST 800 miles of riding.

so what should i do?should i buy a gasket se of rthe WHOLE engine and get it all over and done with? i acturly realy dont want to do it because the bike has been fully rebuilt 800 miles ago Confused

my question is how hard is it to dismantle the WHOLE engine and replace all the seals and parts? easy?

btw its a 1999 EVO 1 mito

the tally now stands at:

-Engine rebuild

-Replacement shock (as a berk on here sold me one that had nothing in it!if you have one PM ME)

new speedo(anyone have one?PM ME)

and powervalve pully spindal (if anyone has one sparePM ME)

First of all, is it the gasket? Are you sure the sump plug hasn't just rattled out?

If it is the gasket, I wouldn't get a gasket set, I'd be using a cereal box and making my own. Why change all the gaskets when only 1 has failed?

My bet would be that the oil seal on the selector shaft or output shaft has gone. I had to replace a selector shaft seal the other week on a Cagiva.

Disassembling the engine is easy enough with the right (sometimes wrong) tools. Takes an afternoon to take apart and rebuild.

It's really overkill to replace every seal and gasket, unless it's the crankcase gasket, in which case you may as well do them all and change the bearings while your at it.

hi mate,

you mean the gear selector shaft?

im pretty sure i cheched round the outsdie of it and it was all okay....no leaks


it defo look like its coming from the crank gasket as its only at the bottom of the engine and knowwhere else?

hello mate,
just went outside(in the dark) and shoved my hand in where the gear selector joins the casing....its totaly dry from what i can tell.

does that seal come in that gasket set i posted for the selector shaft?

as i orderd it a little while ago.


and does anyone know where i can get the ally round spindal from for the powervalve unit?as my powervalve is now jammed because the cable is binding as its so worn on the noggings Confused OR DOES ANYONE HAVE ONE SPARE, because i cant find any?

also need shock...

Yes, it looks like there is an oil seal for the selector shaft in that set.

From what you say it's leaking crankcase gaskets, but check the clutch cover gasket too. you'll need to split the engine to replace the crankcase gasket. Take a look at this helpful thread at 125ccsportsbikes.

hello again mate,

at work today i took part of the fairing off and the tank.....

the oil soaking the bottom dosent appear to smell?like gearbox oil does....

someone at work said it could be oil/petrol leaking from the carb?

i touched the carb and it was wet underneeth and a bit oily.....could it have run down underneeth?

i never turn my fuel tap off...maby this is the problem? Confused

hopefully it is as i realy dont want to splint this engine when its just been done!

does anyone know where i can get a powervalve pully spindal from!!!!? i cant get one anywhere...as the one on my powervalve(on engine) is worn!

Why not clean it all off with gunk and then look where it is originating from.

If it is fuel then it will be eating away at the paint on the engine cases anyway.
