Hi all.

I have some car audio stuff that i took from my old car when i gave up on cars and needless to say this stuff cost me a fir bit of dosh when i brought it. What i wanna know is can i somehow rig it up indoors and turn it into a sort of boom box for my room?
I have 4 500watt subs, a 1000watt amp, two 6*9's and a head unit.

Any help will earn mucho respect Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Neil.

set it up the same as you would for a car without the head unit. All the head unit does is read your CD/Radio/iPod/MP3 player/whatever and send a signal out. just need to find something that will send a signal to your amps. something like a CD player or if you have a Hi-Fi in your room connect the amp up to that the same way you would connect it into your car. remember a car runs on 12V and your main work on 230V. you will need a transformer

You will need to splice the rear speakers to your 6x9's from the stalk adapter.

Use the amplifier for 2 of the subs, to be fair 2000w of PMPO woofer will sound cack over some coax 6x9's.

Can't name suitable equipment for running the head unit/amp though.

If you add more info on the subs/speakers amp ect more help can be added.

Also, are these figures PMPO (Peak Maximum Power Output), or RMS (Root Mean Square).

I suspect PMPO.

All speakers will require speaker boxes as they are designed to be mounted in a small enclosed space. The 6x9's are not worth bothering with as they are a compromise at the best of times, not heard a pair that can beat component speakers yet.

Then you are going to need amps to power them and a source.

Best bet is pack them away for your next car or sell them TBH.

it is possible, ive seen it done plenty of times.

I have a DVD/Home cinema system in my bed room and thats great.

Have a look for a cheap one, doesnt need to be powerful because you will amp them anyway.

Mine has a sub port and all the correct speaker sockets.

Running a car amp from a 240v supply, while possible, is generally a waste of time.

Some very rough maths: 1000w peak = 250w RMS, 250w / 12v = 20a

So you need a 12v supply capable of delivering ~20a, a quick look at Maplin (not great, but the first to appear in Google) suggests a suitable bench supply will set you back ~£100.

Buy a 'HiFi' amp and build a lowpass filter if you really feel the need to use four subs in your house ( Eh? ). Your neighbours will probably wish you eBayed them.

Sell them all and get a hi-fi designed to run on mains voltage, will sound much better. Car Audio is a long way from hi-fi.

it wont be rms it will be pmpo, so you can divide that 250w by 4, and so something that can deliver 5 amps, should be cheaper than £100

if it were me, id use an old bike battery, and keep it charged up with a bike battery charger

or similar with car batteries

Your car speakers will be 4 ohm, if you are plugging them into a home amp/stereo system that will be an 8 ohm amp.

The likelyhood is you will put too much power (current) through them and blow them.

Thumbs Up

Hes not talking about mixing car stereo stuff with home stereo stuff, he's talking about using a car stereo setup, that will be drawing a current from something at 12v.

It doesnt really matter if its a battery, that you charge after use, or a 12 volt power supply.

If the power supply isnt powerful enough, it will just not have much bass, thats all.

There wont be any fires.

Hi guys.
Sorry for not replying.
So after a bit of research i managed to butcher a 450w 20a PSU to power my 800w amp.
I hooked it up to 2 300w 6*9 and a old 500w sub i had laying around. I spent yesterday building a air tight box for it, with a switch and seperate chamber for each speaker. I think it came out pretty well. And oh my GOD this thing KICKS!!!
I have my main volume at 20%, winamp on 5% and the gains on the amp at about 20% and its still loud as fook. I'm sure the neighbours will hate me soon lol.
Anyway, heres some pics Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
