The only thing you really want out of the kit is the spark plug spanner anyway , the rest are not very useful, and maybe the C spanner to adjust your chain if your bike needs one. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Thanks for all the replies – most helpful. Sounds like the best option would be to wait to see what they offer back and if no toolkit forthcoming ask for details of former owner to ask if they still have it. |

Hi
I would like to have a tool kit. I have fixed bikes at the side of the road using the cheap and nasty tool kits (eg, the YSR last year). Nice to be able to adjust a chain while out if needs be. Also if you come across someone who has run out of petrol then you can whip the tank off and drain some fuel into it to get them going.
That said I have a fair number of tools in the car should I need to sort problems out (specifically enough tools to change a wheel bearing on the bike trailer).
All the best

I think most people take the toolkit out and use the space for disc lock or whatever, I have.
While I used to carry a set of tools religiously on my bikes, I only do if Iam going abroard now, and thats only fuses, an adjustable, multi tipped screwdriver and a puncture repair outfit.
In UK I use my breakdown cover ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

The only thing that's really particularly useful in the tool kit is a C-Spanner to adjust the shock preload, and that's something you're only likely to change once or twice anyway. ____________________ My Flickr |

I know they are only fickle tools but from a buyer perspective I know its nice to buy a second hand bike thats a few years old and still has both its keys, all its documents, service history and an original toolkit. All my bikes have come with the toolkit still there and I would look if buying a bike second hand and may even consider factoring it into my offer, it says something about the previous owner if they have at least been arsed to keep it all together! ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

Its a used bike so it is unrealistic to expect it to be supplied with everything that it left the factory with, unless you specifically bought the bike and checked everything was present before you put your money down.
My guess is that you didn't even think about the toolkit until you had the bike and then realised it was missing. You can't really blame the dealer in my opinion. If you are that bothered, source one off ebay or from a breakers. ____________________ Yamaha YZF-R6 |
