Got any luggage on your bike?

I'm mostly thinking of hard luggage and top-boxes etc but if you have a set of soft luggage then all well and good too.

So, what do you have and who made it?

Easy to fit? Waterproof? Cheap? Secure?

(I'm looking at top boxes and seen manufacturers liek 'Hepco & Becker' etc that I've never heard of before)

Easy to fit, water proof, pretty big, only prob is the logo is starting to peel off, not that I care about that.

Have had 2 sets of the Touring paniers as above....(Gman destroyed my original set when he crashed).

They are not water proof , even with the rain covers as rain soaks in via the inner side.

They are reverse water proof however ie once things inside them get wet they will stay wet for a very long time.

They are unaerodynamic and cut my tank range from 155miles per tank to 130 miles per tank. Down to 95 to a tank when the rain covers are on.

Rain covers are pants they are flappy , they split and fly off and burn onto your zorst, and when they do work water pools into the bottom of them.

The stitching on the velcro straps is poor very poor they snapped even when lightly loaded with 4 or 5 kilos of soft things like clothes. Thus they need to be supported from underneath and or balanced on the pegs.

Zips on them are poor and as said lightly loaded the zips would seize and or jump teeth..

All this happened in Spain.

They also need the rubber matting and taped up fairings as they will rub through CBR paint.

I've got a Kappa 42 litre topbox on a Givi rack. I believe Kappa are made on the same production line as Givi, might be wrong as I'm not sure where I heard it. The previous owner said he lost one on the motorway where it just came loose so put a bolt through the bottom to keep it on the rack. It does what it's supposed to, keeps my stuff dry.

When I need more capacity I have a pair of Swagman throwovers which are probably 17 years old. Well made and will keep a shower off stuff, but I tend to pack things in binbags when I use them. Not seen them for sale for a while now.

I've also got a magnetic tankbag from Lidl, not really used it in earnest to comment on the long term quality, but so far it's been useful for the clear pocket on top.

Had a Kappa 42 (I think) litre top box on my CB5... did the job, I suppose... it would hold one of those fridge packs of beer, two pints of milk or a loaf of bread and all the other things that your lady will ask to you pick up on your way home. The mounting itself needed tightening every so often but otherwise it was fine.

To be honest, I don't miss having it - a good rucksack'll carry just about the same amount, the only thing I'm lacking is a place to stash the helmet when I go into the shop/etc.

Lidl tank back - big enough for a weeks worth of pants and socks, some work shirts, jeans and a couple of sweatshirts. Too early for long term comments, but seems really weel made and very practical.

I have the yamaha hard cases for my Tenere. No need for over priced mounting plales or racks. Although they are a bit cumbersome and, whilst waterproof, I think in a serious 'off' they wouldn't look too pretty.

KTM logo'd Touratech boxes. Very expensive and a little flimsy (has had the bike resting on them a couple of times. To be fair, they are pretty light. Luggage capacity listed at 10kg or something, but I've managed around 20kg, though it did destabilise the bike at low speed (thus ending on it's side as it compressed the suspension too much on the side stand).
Locks are extra and you need two locks per box. Lid doesn't hinge so needs to be fastened at each end.
Fitting was quite easy as stuff was designed for bike.

Not worth the money. Next ones will be DIY, I reckon.

Givi top-box with light. This is a cheap 'scooter' top box.
Works quite well, though can be a bit hard to close when I leave my gym stuff in there loose (bits fall between where the top and bottom meet and get trapped) thanks to the 'clam shell design'. Extra brake light is nice, I've added LED indicator strips too now.
Been using this on various bikes for a while and I'm generally happy with it - good value for money.
Can fit a full-face flip-up helmet in, or a reasonable amount of shopping, etc.
It's also quick-release, using a single lock to hold it onto it's base and unlock the top. The bases is easily attachable to a rack - on my zx9 I have made holes in the pillion seat and put some bolts through it.

Honda (Givi - I think) 35 litre top box. Relatively cheap from Honda official accessory list (£75 including the mount). Sturdy, waterproof and holds lots of stuff including my lid. If I need more space I cargo net a bag to the pillion seat.

I've got Kappa hard luggage (topbox + panniers) they came with the bike, and in 2002 were the OEM fitment for Suzuki.

As Shaggy said Kappa have actually been bought by Givi now, but the whole range inc the Kappa stuff can be found at Calamander.

They're very easy to fit, with one key for all locks and to remove them from the frame/plate.

Never took the risk waterproof wise as I've got a Suzuki topbox bag for the topbox, and use rucksack liners for the panniers.

I use an Oxford Sports Expanding tank bag £35 secondhand off eBay.

I also have an Ortlieb dry sack for large bulky items, like sleeping bags etc... and this I lash to the pillion seat with a bed roll, also in a rucksack liner.

Everything stayed dry even in the torrential rain of last September.

I think costs were reasonable, apart from the hard luggage which would probably be around £500 all-in.

I have GIVI E33 and E47.
E47 is wide enough for 2 helmets. But mine is arai tour-x, I can't put two tour-x s in it due to chin part. The height is as same as helmet. I can't load anything under or over the helmet.
E47 is wide. But I don't have to see it on mirrors. When I drop the bike, my bike has engine guard, but it makes a small scratch on E47.
I think why GIVI doesn't make triple width one of helmet is you can't see rear on the mirrors well, and it will break the carrier of top box when you drop the bike.

I have a Givi E30 which I find to be waterproof and it locks up quite securely. I also fitted the optional brake light to it which is pretty neat IMO. It takes way more than the 3kg quoted maximum load without problems. I'd recommend it for a small engined scooter or bike anytime.

Got a Givi V46 which I used on the Versys. Very good quality, waterproof, decent capacity (was enough for a 4 day tour including a big SLR camera). Looking for a way to attach it to the 12, but only for longer trips as it doesn't really suit the bike lol.

Also have the Oxford sports luggage which is ok. Waterproof with the rain covers, but quality not brilliant after a few uses. Tankbagespecially lost it's shape, which I replaced with a Hein Gerricke which is much better built.
