I am interested in where the percentages lie in the fast bike stakes. I guess we all sort of know how fast/powerful our bike is (I was left behind a ZX10R yesterday which was OK because I was well away from some clapped out old Honda) so I am avoiding putting makes and models in to categories and allowing to put your self into where you think your bike/skill level fits. If you are between bikes chose your last one. On my 650 Kawasaki Versys (considering my last bike was an ER5/Medium) with 2 years riding under my belt I am going for medium fast.

Just because people think a bike's fast doesn't make it 'fast'.

For instance I daily ride my 143hp (well, so it was a few years ago Smile) ZX9R, but my 35hp 200cc enduro bike actually 'feels' much faster!
Think I surprised a newish GSXR600 rider earlier who didn't realise that the top-boxed-muff'd bike had a bit of go Smile.

On the scale of bikes I've ridden, personally I'd put 650 twins around 'medium' or 'medium slow' on your scale. I'd like to find a bike I consider stupid-fast, though when I first got my ZX6 it did feel like this at the time!

I voted medium slow. I do not consider myself a fast rider, just safe and competant. (although my bike is probably 'fast').

And for the record I don't care, I ride as slow as I like Cool

I don't think I'm that fast on the road, and I haven't been on the track for just over six months now so I just voted for Medium.

I didn't read the bit about skill level Embarassed . My bike is stupid fast, but I'm not a 'fast' rider by any means.

Slow/medium. Haven't ridden fast since I sold the 400. Mainly 'cause I've ridden two up on nearly every outing I've had on my bike bar one or two. Shocked

Naked bikes seem fast when you have a bad neck anyway. Smile

Fast but I only ride quickly overseas these days when touring as there are very few roads AND days where it is good enough to stupid fast without killing yourself and or getting banned. But even when riding fast end of the day with my beer I often think whoa that was nuts.... if I'd have made a mistake I'd be dead.

Ie the A316 / A317 / N74 / N202 / N85 / N260 / N240 there just is NO fascimilie in the UK , you get country routes like the buttertubs pass , Snake pass, A675 , Cat N Fiddle, The Yorkshire TT and the Holmes Chapel circuit etc not forgetting many parts of Scotland.

But these routes are :

Short (the A675 is less than 10 miles long)
Often wet and slippery.
Have a terrible road surface.
Are crawling with cops.
Are busy.

The A316/17 was virtually deserted , didn't see a single camera or cop with smooth hot grippy black top and excellent visibility. Its why the CBR600RR isn't such a good bike to own in the UK as there just isn't anywhere to use it to anywhere near its full potential.

I'd rate the CB500 as medium, and myself as medium-slow. I rarely go over the ton now, being happier to sit around 80, dropping to 65 if I'm in no particular hurry. Having an MPG meter in the car has slowed me down a lot, if I fitted one to the bike I'd probably sell it and get a CG125 Smile

I voted slow for now on my RS50, the bike is slow but I'd consider myself medium-fast. Smile

Come August I'll be on a fast bike though. Thumbs Up

I am faster on my Speed Four than I ever was on my Fireblade, So for me, the Speed Four is very very fast.

I think a semi quick rider in general is going to be faster on a 600 than a litre bike.

I'd say the SP1 is fast, mostly down to the aggressive power delivery and comedy quick action throttle than sheer power though. It's still rather wayward and fidgety and at the end of the day most big sports IL4 will crucify it once they get on the boil so it's definately not worthy of stupidly fast Sad

As for me myself, I'd say I'm fairly medium, maybe even medium/slow as things stand, still got a few things to sort on the bike before I can properly build my confidence on it.

I've only got a lowly Bandit S, but it feels fast to me. I think that, like others, it's the way you ride it. I'm sat in traffic most of the time, but I just got home on a really clear dual carriageway so I was touching 100 - a rare opportunity, not to be missed.

I'd say that my skill is probably medium slow, although i sometimes do go a little silly i find i need to concentrate too much and it takes the fun out of riding. I'm happy just bimbling around at my own pace, after all, it's not a race.

I know both my bikes are fast.

Way much faster than I can ride them.

My track bike is an Ex MSS discovery race bike (ZX10), its a very fast bike that I'm still trying to learn, and at the moment way too fast for me.

My road bike is a ZXR750M, limited edition with an engine that I've built with race kit parts and big bore up to 793cc... etc... again, way too fast for the road, but I'm not interested in going fast on the road, its more of a show bike iwth fancy parts.

Thumbs Up

i would say my last bike was fast (cbr1000f) even for a big old heavy beast of a thing, i however take my time, giving it a squirt occaisionally, so would class me as a medium slow rider, so i opted for good old medium,

Went for medium. I hardly ever rev out my 20 year old 600, and very rarely give it full throttle, just no point on the road to do so.

On track I'm firmly wedged mid pack in the Inters group, so yeah, medium'll do me.

My 675 feels fast, doesn't feel stupid fast now i'm used to it.
Perfect amount of power i think, anymore and it just wouldn't be enjoyable.
