There was a story not so long ago about a guy who paid his speeding ticket by mailing a case of pennies to the office, they called in a bomb disposal team who after opening the package realized he was just being awkward.

Read the story about the guy sending pennis to pay for his ticket, can't remember who it was but someone said that you can only use so much change to pay for a ticket, so for example you can only use £5 worth of 10ps (this is not a fact, just an example as I can't remember the real amount). So be careful if you do decide to pay your ticket in pennies!

Far simpler, in the case of an unjust fine (as are 99% of them), go out and smash ten times the value of the fine in state property. Parked police cars are good.

I'm trying to find the link to the story of a bloke who paid his company tax bill in pennies. It wasn't huge (about £8k) and the Inland Revenue had been chasing him for ages. He finally said "Sure, send someone round and I'll pay". He kept the bods waiting for an hour or so, then showed them the money - all in pennies, all in buckets. They refused to accept, so he said "Fine, sign this letter from my solicitor saying that I've attempted to pay, you've refused to accept payment, therefore the debt is cancelled". They wouldn't, so started counting.

After couple of hours, they found that it was short - he had taken a handful out. When they complained he said that he'd counted it beforehand and it was all there, so they'd better check again. When they confirmed it, he gave them the missing money, and asked for a reciept indicating his bill was paid in full.

They did that, and as they started towards the lifts with the money, he said "Excuse me, but where are you going with my buckets?"


Probably just an urban myth, but I like it.

No you don't. The govt takes the absolute maximum it can from you at all times, so smashing state property costs you not a penny more. You're just getting some of it back in fact, in kind.

I frequently see police cars unattended and with the keys left in them.
I sooooooo want to jump in and drive around for a while with the sirens on, talking gibberish into the radio.

Legal tender doesn't mean that is all it is legal to pay with. Note that in Scotland I don't think ANY money is legal tender anymore (the £1 note was the last legal tender).
