how do i make my exhasut less noisey

Hi there people what would guys say would be the easiest way to make my exhaust not as loud ??

So far i can find these db killers you put in the can, but do they make much of a difference ? just seems like a slightly smaller pipe with holes in.

bag of steel wool, pop around the inside of the can(around the pipe with holes in) wrap with thin wire(picture framers wire etc) should kill the noise

dont have the standard can, this one was half the price of the original one.

What sort of can is it?

The db killers do work, but are also likely to eat some of the power.

If it is an oldish race can then the packing might well have compressed. Unrivet the end and take the perforated tube out, then wire some fresh baffle packing round the perforated tube. Put more around the outside and then reassemble it (you can buy the baffle packing). Wire wool can be used as well but glass fibre is probably more effective.

It says it has removable baffle but all it is, is just a bit thats screwed in the end that takes the end of the pipe internal diameter down by about 5mm smaller only makes a small difference.
have repacked the exhaust but am little unsure that i have done it right. ive packed it in not really tight but not so its floating around in there.

Doesn't look like you can take that apart to repack it (well not without cutting it open and then welding it back up again).

oh sorry mine is slightly difference its the older one on the exit end the largest part holds the end on by rivets, as ive said i have repacked it.

The wire wool does work, used to do it all the time back in the day, but it was standard on old 70's -80s bikes when I first started riding

No, proper exhaust packing is much better and it doesn't burn like wire wool.

Tis true, it burns... also used swarf from work(that doesn't burn) is slightly bigger and longer lasting than wire wool( from my engineering days)

ok well ive repacked it with proper exhaust wading and think i may have packed it to tight as has a harder sound so im guessing its not take much sound out.
Am going to get a db killer friday and 'make it fit' should help a little i guess.

it is pretty loud when its only a 125 and getting anywhere sounds like it'l be rapid but nothing
i had one complaint from someone so must be loud. may try and get a video if mic on camera pics it up ok.

well nothing was said at the mot about the exhaust so take it its fine.
Must admit tho do feel bit silly with all the noise and no go

Bear in mind that louder is also safer. My NSR125 has a very sharp bark (I packed the baffling uber tight) and more drivers knew I was coming when filtering, than the quieter (at low speeds) Bandit.

Next time someone complains, tell 'em it's a Health & Safety thing.

The noise is a safety mesure to make sure if a car has not seen you it will hear you Insurance companys should give us a discount for loud exhausts
