0). Is the side-stand up, and is it in neutral and is the engine kill-switch on run?
1). Check for a spark. If no spark could be:
Dirty sparkplug.
Dodgy/corroded kill switch/side-stand switch/clutch switch/ignition switch. Check for obvious corrosion, give them a squirt with WD40 or disconnect them.
Dodgy coil, loose HT lead, loose sparkplug cap.
Dodgy CDI (unlikely if it was working before storage)

2).Check to see if the sparkplug is damp after you've been turning it over for a bit. If not, probably fuel.
Check fuel tap.
Check fuel filter.
Check fuel line.
Check to see if carb float bowl is filling. Make sure the carb bowl is drained of old fuel. If it's full of good fuel, you might have a clogged jet or water in the float bowl. Strip it down, clean it out.

If still no luck, then hard-wire the starter motor to the engine kill switch and sell it as an electric bicycle. Karma Very Happy

Ta Jimbo.........

Weak/intermittent spark - have WD'd the switches, slightly loose HT lead - still not damp though. Will rip apart float bowl tomorrow and pick up a new plug - hangover pending.

Hold up !
If you got a WEAK SPARK try this.
When my bike had a top end done I fecked up the pick up coil by the flywheel thing. (on the left hand side of the bike, should be next to the front sprocket.)
Check that if it sparks, if not move it SLIGHTLY closer and kick start it.

My problem with a weak spark was off a ns125r 90' model.
I replaced ht leads, cdi, regulator, plugs, coils etc.. and it turned out it was'nt sparking right at the pick up !
I found that out after one of the guys from off the forum came over to have a look at it.

that can happen, but the pick-up coil won't move by itself. So if the bike was just left standing it's unlikely to be a problem.

Weak/intermittent spark

Could be your problem, but the spark may be weaker if the engine isn't spinning fast, and intermittent because it's hard to look at the plug and kick or spin the engine at the same time!
If the engine didn't flood while you were trying to start it (damp/wet sparkplug and petrol smell from sparkplug hole/exhaust pipe) then it looks like the fuel system.
If the main jet is blocked (remove it and try to blow down it) you'll probably have to get some carb crap dissolver and soak it, then blow clean with compressed air (at garage or with bicycle pump!). Can also clean it with a fine wire if you're stuck, but this isn't recommended as it can damage the jet.
Also check the float pin, as this can bind in it's seat and stop the float bowl from filling.
If petrol is allowed to evaporate in the carburettor, it leaves a thin film of shellac that clogs the jet and can bind the float. A good soak in carb cleaner normally clears it up. Karma
