well the time has arrived for me to start my revamp project
amongst the things to do:
Arrow fit longer braided brake hoses
Arrow fix some sort of engine/carburation problem
Arrow strip everything off the frame, paint it
Arrow paint tank, wheels and plastics
Arrow just generally clean everything up

the final paint scheme will hopefully be red frame and wheels with black tank and plastics

anyway heres some pics of the state of the bike at the present

doesnt look too bad from a distance

upload em to a website like photobucket or imageshack
then put
preview it before posting to make sure it works.
Only saying as it makes project threads much easier to read.

Ah that paint job is crazy Laughing never fails!

Take it there's not much wrong, just cosmetically really? I see the wee bracket on the side panel has broken, mine is the same, can't fit them though so didn't bother me.

Ack well, should look much better when its done. Thumbs Up

yeah man its cos the previous owner tried taking the panels off without undoing the screw bit... will just fill the holes in before i paint, should be ok Smile

yeah has some sort of engine problem that is seriously affecting the performance... fires on 3 cylinders for most of the rev range and only when you have it pinned (sometimes) and at a steady low rev will the 4th cyl cut in... got a mechanic hopefully looking at it early next week so probly wont have any updates till after then as i need to keep it roadworthy

Well, at the end of day two, the bike had been stripped mostly to the frame.

Took absolutely ages to get the exhaust off as there were two or three different sized bolts that were siezed and hard to reach, but we got there in the end (hence the triumphant photo of Blackwolf!).

Couldn't manage to get the main swingarm bolt out, don't know why, just won't budge. Also can't get the rear brake system off due to more seized bolts.

Got some parts cleaned and ready for spraying now, so will update when we have made more progress.

Here are the photos so far...

Cool, fast work man.. hiring some extra hands ain't a bad idea Laughing

I know the feeling with taking exhaust bolts off, always think they're gonna sheer.. WD40, blowtorch, alan key & a 4lb hammer, then a spanner for leverage worked for me.

Don't know why your bolt ain't coming off the swingarm shaft though, I used an impact gun but there weren't any issues - Just get some leverage on it Thumbs Up

So what you doing next, stripping paint, sandblasting etc? It'll be sad to see those colours go now lol..

well, not really Laughing

yeah i managed to get the nut off the end but i cant manage to hammer the shaft out, turns freely but just doesnt budge!

well i dont think i am gonna have the time/funds to strip the paint or shotblast it so just gonna fill in some of the cracked paintwork, key it up and spray it... sprayed the sidestand today with the red and looks awesome! will get pics up after the final lacquer coat

and yeah my helpers are making it much easier, even managed to get a couple of girls to get their hands dirty Smile

forgot to mention...
blackwolf kindly donated an adjustable cbr600 rear shock to see if it will fit (as the current one is s@#t) just lined it up with the rear assy and it looks like it will fit a treat! Smile

just some pics of the prepped frame and some of the bits abd bobs after 3 coats of paint...

https://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu301/chillyman0/Photo0065.jpg

frame has had some body filler treatment and primer onto the filler and rust...
https://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu301/chillyman0/Photo0066.jpg

and some of the plastics have had 2-3 coats of gloss black and ready for lacquer compared to the original blue side panels... which we forgot about and now have to buy another can of black just to spray them Embarassed
https://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu301/chillyman0/Photo0068.jpg

https://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu301/chillyman0/Photo0069.jpg

and the frame thats now had one coat of the red...
https://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu301/chillyman0/Photo0070.jpg

so after spraying one wheel, one coat on the frame, 2 or 3 on most of the plastics, 2 on the light cowling and battery tray and 2 on the tank we've got through half a tin of primer 2 tins of 300 odd ml fiat racing red paint and one tin of 500 odd ml gloss black... not to mention the god send that is cilit bang!

more to come in the next few days... i have probably a rather optimistic deadline of friday, and thats having sprayed it let the paint cure some what and put the thing back together, then i can hopefully ride it to the George Whites open weekend bonanza thing at the weekend
Question

well work was fast and furious today...

finished spraying and lacquering plastics and the odd part and also put some more lacquer coats on the frame

so the evening was drawing in and i realised that i would not have all my handy helpers during the day over the next few days and my plan was to get the bike up and running by friday eve... so we risked it and started to rebuild the frame without letting the lacquer fully cure... all seems to be ok as we have some parts back on and more importantly the rear sus, wheel and engine is back on (fitted the engine about an hour ago... yeah thats 21:00 in the dark Razz)

anyway will not banter on any further... heres some photos we got in the dark (quite good for a cybershot phone i thought)

do ignore the slight bits of purple you can still see... im a student so i couldnt afford to waste paint on all areas you cant see when its assembled

more to come over the next few days

The spindle has probably seized to the bush in the swinging arm. The bush is spinning in place.

All the best
