I have my MOT coming up, on my birthday of all days! So anyway i could do with some help to save it from ruining my birthday and failing
#1 Since i came off in the ice ive only had one mirror (RH) the other one still has the stalk bit just no actual mirror, the remaining mirror is missing a bit of the plastic surround where my friend trod on it while i had the fairing off to repair other crash damage, helpful of him aye! The glass on the remaining mirror is 100% fine and there isnt that much plastic missing.
Is it likely to fail on these two points?
#2 At some point in the past 6 months a "slash" for want of a better word, has appeared on my rear tyre, it is mayby 3 inches across but is not deep enough to be dangerous, the examiner is unlikely to notice it but just incase, is it likely to fail on that?
#3 A very small corner on both sides of my fairing near the mirrors have snapped off, they are not sharp. Is it likely to fail on this?
I cant think of any more at the moment, i have looked online and from what i can determin #2 is the only one im likely to fail on however id like a second opinion please.

If it was to fail on the tyre would i still be legaly allowed to ride it home? I know normaly i would be allowed but im sure there is some sort of clause about major safety issues, would the tyre count as that if the tester was to fail it? Another part of me says thats just for brakes so im probably worrying about nothing as per usual.
Oh and thanks for the speedy replys so far

If the MOT tester does his job properly, he will rotate the wheel by hand and check out the complete tyre for imperfections and condition. So no point in trying to hide it.
If he considers the tyre condition to be really dangerous then he can insist that he will not release the bike back to you unless you make suitable arrangements for transportation, i.e. bring a trailer to transport it on, or convince him that you will push it all the way to the tyre shop. Either way, you blag your way to getting your bike back, but he is then covered. If he let you ride it away with a serious defect on the tyre, he could be prosecuted and lose his MOT tester status if you had a blowout that caused a serious accident. ____________________ Suzuki GT250 (stolen 1980), Kawasaki H1 500 (blew up 1982), Piaggio Liberty 125 (since 2008), Moto Morini 500 Strada (since 2008), CB125T (in bits) |

Get it replaced, for your own sake apart from anything else. |
Seriously if i had the money i would, you really think i feel confident riding on a tyre with a slash on it!?
Today i spent a few hours with my friend tidying the bike up, it now has two mirrors and no rough edges at all on the fairing, I fixed the throttle which has been a little iffy for the past week, topped the oil up and tightened the chain, its now in as good a condition as ill be able to get it for the MOT, if it fails then it fails, not much i can do.

Mirrors are not part of the test. Perhaps they are a testable item fro 1978-onwards bikes, but if there's no mirror there to test - it can't fail. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Dont want to hijack this thread but it saves starting a new MOT question for me
My indicators are just buggered... Wont take LEDs (yes tried everything)
So Ive got none on the back but 2 on the front (none working) Im not going to bother trying to fix them right now because I get frustrated lol
But if I remove the front ones off and put some duck tape over the indicator switch to show im not using them will it still pass?
Or will I need to removed the switch altogether??
Cheers guys |
