Finished rebuilding the rear brake caliper today and also bent the headlight cradle to the right a bit with some scaffold tube so it's straight again.

I have 2 things left to do for the M.O.T. Bleed the brakes and rebuild the forks.

I was going to get the bike up on top of a tool box today so I could remove the forks, but I need to re-arrange the garage first and my dad wouldn't move his RD250 outside when it was raining.

Hi

Just dragged my TZR250 out to do some fiddling with. Should have it running shortly. Need to connect up the power valve cables and put the exhausts on. Probably swap the forks for my rebuilt ones as well.

All the best

Keith

Good stuff Keith Thumbs Up

Just been outside for the last couple of hours making a camera rig out of the mechanism from my front door.

Yes I realise my welding is crap and with it bolted on you can't open the tank cap, just needs some re-working. I was going to bolt it on the other side but because of my shoddy welding I wouldn't be able to get the bolts in Rolling Eyes

It's sturdy though, I just need some bolts to bolt it on as the ones I was using were to bolt the tank cap to the tank.

Hi

Better success than me.

I got the power valves connected up, but not certain they are connected correctly. Looks like the power valves resting position is meant to be open, and then close when idling.

Swapped on the decent set of forks (rechromed and rebuilt a while back).

Anyway got it running. The exhausts were blowing around the manifold though but new Yamaha exhaust gaskets seem to have fixed that (rather than the ones with the pattern full gasket set). One set of pipes have a hole and a crack on the l/h pipe near the front. The other set have been repaired in that area, but there is also a small blow there. And found that I don't have the manifolds for the spare race pipes I have. So 3 sets of pipes and none currently useable! Trying to decide what to do exhaust wise. Stock exhausts seem pretty rare 2nd hand, and are hideously expensive new. Nikkon pipes are fairly cheap but not sure how good they are and I would prefer a stock system. Jolly Moto pipes are hideously expensive. JL exhausts are not cheap but at least are stainless.

All the best

Keith

I found some brand new main jets and pilot jets for a TZR250 whilst at home this weekend if anyone needs some.

Pm your address keith, I'll chuck em in the post when I next go to my garage. Got a Bandit clutch cover gasket too if you want it. Since I don't have a bandit any more, and you should have 2 bikes with engines that it fits.

There was some Jolly Motos on eBay for £550. Very expensive.

Clicky

A pair of brand new Nikkons went on eBay for £256 a few days ago.

Clicky

I was bidding on them but didn't win.

Nikkons are supposed to give good midrange, not sure about the Jolly Motos.

Hi

Think the spares I have are Nikkon ones. The JL ones in stainless would suit me and are about the same price (bit cheaper) as the Jolly Moto ones. Although I would far prefer standard ones.

A pair of new exhausts from CMSNL would be about 800 euro, which is probably more than the bike is worth. However they do list the gasket that goes around the baffle at the end which has gone on one pipe and that is only 6 euro.

Need to sort out the power valves today and rebuild the rear brake master cylinder.

All the best

Keith

Finished off the camera mount today with some more shoddy welding so now it is held on by 3 bolts.

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC00895.jpg

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC00896.jpg

Then I painted it white with a tin of anti rust primer I found in the garage.

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC00899.jpg

The spacer that goes in between the clip-on and the top yoke has a little pin through it, but the one on the right didn't so when fitted it spun round.

https://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a376/ms51ves3/DSC00900.jpg

I found a little piece of threaded bar (if you can call it a bar) that was pretty much the perfect size. Another job striked off the list.

Hi

Hope you don't need to fill up with petrol in a hurry Mr. Green .

Those pins on mine appear too short. They barely locate the bars.

I got the exhausts on and the stuck baffle out, and put in a pair of half decent baffles. Just need to get some of the gaskets for around the back of the baffles. Bike starts and runs OK now (loads of smoke, probably me being too generous with the 2 squeak oil when reassembling it).

Rebuilt the rear brake master cylinder and still couldn't bleed the brakes through. So took the caliper to pieces and found a lump of seal missing. Went to put them together with the new seals I had only to find those seals are wrong (maybe the caliper has been swapped at some point).

All the best

Keith

I'll be carrying a 4mm allen key around. No F1 pit stops for me Laughing

Just out of interest, are any of your baffles cut down?

I was thinking of cutting mine to the caps as it's supposed to improve performance slightly and obviously, make them louder.

Hi

The baffles are standard. One was slightly mishapen and a git to get out. If you take them out they are a blocked tube with a couple of scoops for the gas to leave the tube, and then a couple more scoops for the gas to enter the tube. If you wanted to you could probably easily make up a replacement noisier baffle.

Suspect with the sheared off bolt it would be easiest to take the hanger off and stick it in a piller drill carefully lined up and drill the old bolt out with progressively larger drills. Suspect there is a good chance you could get it out without damaging the hanger.

All the best

Keith

It's too much effort to make a new one though Laughing

I don't have access to a pillar drill. I was just going to use my black and decker hand drill progressively getting bigger until 5mm, then put an M6 tap through it (I think it's M6).

For now though, it's not crucial.

Martin77 on the TDR forum and RD forum can make you a set to your specification in steel. I'm not 100% on price but he charges around £100-150 for a pair of expansion chambers with manifolds. Absolutely brilliant pipes though, sound awesome, lighter and have more punch when it hits the band.

Here's my first test run on my TDR250 after a recent small scale rebuild with Martin's pipes and TZ350 (road legal Wink ) Ally Silencers. She was running too rich up top at the time of filming.

Hi

I would prefer standard exhausts to be honest. I have 2 sets but neither are great.

If the ones you have are decent I might well take you up on that. I do have a set of Nikkon pipes, just missing the adaptors onto the barrels.

Have a look when you are down for the Stafford show if you want.

All the best

The only issues with them is one was wobbly, but can be fixed with a bit of foil like I showed in this thread.

Also both end cans have scratches down them where the bike has been down the road.

Where could I get adaptors for the Nikkons?
