Oil Level Sensor

Can anyone advise me
why the oil level sensor light comes on after about a hours ride.I ride a FZS 600 2002, the oil level is correct.
The manual states the light may come on under certain conditions ie rapid acceleration or going up hill.
Once it comes on it stays on untill i let it stand for a few hours ???.
Any thoughts thanks.

Its an oil level sensor and the oil is on the top level mark.

Is it a level or pressure sensor ???

When you are checking the level are you sure the bike level ? Try turning it round and see if its the same.

It is possible that something is blocking andstopping the flow of oil back to the sump, so after a while there is next to no oil in the sump. Or that the wires to the switch are shorting out...

I would change the oil and the filter and see if the same happens again.

I had this on my S4 (oil pressure switch)

One of the previous owners sent it down the road in its right hand side and the switch was damaged, now and again the ring connector would wobble and come into contact with the engine or frame and the light would come on.

So hopefully its just a fault with the switch.

Hi

The oil level sensors that Yamaha use do malfunction occasionally. Could try taking it out and cleaning it, but might be easier to just replace it.
