Hi all, i've just been given a Suzuki GS500E 1999, in really good condition apart from one thing, the front Engine Mount has snapped off and is gone! & i've tried everywhere to get it cast welded back up but so far it will cost me more than the bikes worth Crying or Very sad
The Rest of the Engine is Mint so it would be a real shame to have to swap it, any advice on this would be very very much appreiciated Very Happy

How many other mounting points are there and where are they?

To be honest - its not ideal obviously - but I can't see the engine going far, unless its vibrating like a b-steward or its only mounted in one other point, I'd be tempted to leave it and just ride the thing!! Wink

Assuming there is no physical movement there, you'll be amazed at what a good areldite job will do for you!! Thumbs Up

You can get 'chemical metal' which is the same idea but a bit more metal orientated ... its not going to hold much load, but will give some support to aid the other mounts to do their job!! Thumbs Up

I've tried loads of breakers, they either don't have a casing or there not willing to strip one down Sad

Not sure how many other mounts there are but i will look, the engine itself is fixed into place very solid, did'nt think of chemical metal (Nice1) but my main worry is can i dress it up good enough to pass the M.O.T

or can you cut it out with a grinder and paint it over well enough to look like there was never one there in the first place?

front engine mount bolt is a common problem on gs500es though, I wouldnt worry about it too much, just find a good MOT tester.

I have the majority of a bike with a knackered engine you can have for 50 notes. It has a solid frame and V5. All you have to do is pick it up from Hornchurch essex.

DON't cut it off FFS ... what little support that is giving at the mo has to be better than NO support ... you said yourself it wasn't going anywhere!! ....

Some chemical metal to 'build it up' and a bit of oil and mud thrown at it so as not to draw attention has to be the way forward ..

I'm with him ^^^^

Leave whats there, build it up whith jb weld or chemical metal and then maybe attach a thin aluminium plate, bent around the bolt, to the remaining casing to give it a finished look.

As itchy mentioned JB weld is the same idea .. and you can get that from Halfords, so you don't need to find a place that sells chemical metal! Thumbs Up
