New to the forum and riding so this is my first bike project. After a chat with a few people on here the NSR was decided to be the best first bike for me and my commute, so after trawling through papers and ads i found a fixer upper at a very good price.

I have restored and rebuilt quite a few cars since i was 17, so i thought id give a bike a go (they cant be much harder to work on than a car). Anyway I got the NSR home and it stayed in one piece for about 12 hours lol...

I haven't any progress pics of it whole but today saw the last parts come apart and be sorted into a box for shot blasting. I have to un-seize the rear shock still and strip the front end but the engine, frame, swing arm and rear frame are all ready to go.

I have managed to get hold of a full set of fairings and tank off of another NSR in gunmetal and orange detail so should look ace. Just need to decide the colour of the frame and wheels any ideas???

So here are the pics so far:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Andy.B/Bike/DSCF1227.jpg

And has anyone got any idea where i can get a new set of rear wheel adjusters from as mine are screwed???

**Update**

Well the frame is back from aliminium welding as there was a crack on the rear seat mounting lug, so had it all pro welded and re shaped to look like it was never a problem.

The shock absorber finaly came undone and gave up its spring so i can get it blasted and powder coted.

I also managed to get a load of parts of ebay a whole fairing kit inc tank. So im in the process of finding the best bits and preping them for spraying.

All the metal frame parts and odds and sods are at the blaster and hes just called me telling me the frame and swingarm are now ready to go into paint Smile Smile

He recons it will all be ready to collect on Wednesday... so pics will be posted Wink

Gloss black for the frame. It'll look amazing.

My old bandit frame.

Never seen a bike with a bolt together headstock before either. Looks cool.

Sounds like you've got the makings of a cracking project there mate!

Went back to the blaster today to pick up my parts...

The paint was done with 2k and was primered before hand twice... so it has lots of paint on it and its should be rock hard. Problem is that now the paint is so thick my frame/ chassie number has been covered over Confused Is this ok or am i going to have to chip off the paint ???
I have the metal rivit on tag that goes next to it that says the model type and the chassis number is this ok by its self?

Spent 30mins in the garage and i now have a frame of sorts lol:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Andy.B/Bike/freecycle018.jpg

All the bits to be powder coated for more durability:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Andy.B/Bike/freecycle019.jpg

And last but not least my swing arm is a bit mullered why?

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Andy.B/Bike/freecycle023.jpg

zoom in

Yes a nice rust hole created from the inside out..... see what you get when you shotblast stuff.

But on a lighter note i did get another arm off ebay which was mint 2 days ago and that is now at the blaster to get done.

It's an M.O.T fail so you'll need to chip it off. Best for you to do it as if you got pulled up by the police, they'll chip it off without a care in the world for the paint around the number.

I'd personally mask it off and use a little nitromors to take the paint off down to the bare metal frame. If you spent your time on it you'll get it looking really tidy.

Nice project!

I've had bikes with powder coated in frame numbers, never even been mentioned at MOT time. Didn't even have the little plate on the frame either.

Personally I'd leave it until someone actually asks you to chip it off.

Work looks good so far! Good work.

Took me bloody ages to get back down to the frame number, but its all there still even though the frame was sand blasted. (Thank god) Laughing

Since i got the frame painted i have been thinking about spraying things myself as i used to when i had my workshop but ever since then i haven't had the room to play.

So yesterday i got the go ahead from the other half to get a compressor, airline and a couple of spray guns from the Sealy tools man. All will be delivered by Wednesday (hopefully)

I am also painting all the fairings with my colour scheme so just ordered some Tango orange and some burnt orange micro flakes to go in with it to make a flat orange a nice metalic. Just got to get some 1k high build primer and some 2k medium laquer.

From what has been said the chassis number is on the guys headstock plate as well as stamped into the headstock.

Should be alright.

Update...

Frame is now together with swing arm and shock bracket in place.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Andy.B/Bike/frame1.jpg

The frame number has been sanded back and masked up ready for primer and some black paint.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Andy.B/Bike/frame.jpg

Front end will be the next thing to be pulled apart and worked on when i have the engine and shock back on the frame.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Andy.B/Bike/front.jpg

Lastly i managed to get a Micron can for the sum of £10 of the great eBay. Its repackable so im going to get some fresh silencer packing and put it all back together once i have sanded out the scratch marks and re polished it back up to an as new condition.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Andy.B/Bike/can.jpg

Oh and my shock spring and all the other small bracket etc... are now at the powder coaters and will be ready for collection on Monday Smile
