They get a year in jail and have to pay £2.4m.

It's going straight to appeal though, so it's far from over I suspect.

It's a ridiculous ruling - I can search for torrents on Google as well - send the Google creators to prison with them.

I know, pure madness. I agree that it is eating into profits of the music and film industry but was having this conversation with someone the other day and while I download a lot of music and TV, if it was not on the net to download I wouldn't spend the equivalent legally, I would just find something else to do/burn other peoples music/films.

It does indeed suck. Millions of tax-payers money spent protecting the so-called interests of big fat greedy corporate parasites while millions of people can't even heat their homes in the middle of winter. I wonder how many Sony CEOs and their celebrity clients went cold?

Unmitigated scum.

The good news is htat this case doesn't really set a president because the case was fought in Sweden.

Any case against other sites would need to be fought in their own countries.

Also note that it's not just the fact that it's a site with torrent links on. A lot of people seem to forget about the trackers they run, which I suspect is the main reason they've ended up with these sentences.

Strange that the site is still up and people are still posting fresh stuff up there.

There will always be piracy, if I can record it, I will, If you make it so I physically can't, then I will not.

If you want that money, and all of it, then you must stay ahead of the pirates game, that is business, royalty, the whole concept of a record company or any publisher is to turn revenue, business.

Pirates keep the fuckers on their toes and slim the pockets a tad, proportionally all artists/developers/publishers/directors/producers/record companies are well paid to compared to most other people anyway.

Piracy is non profit, but people will commit to it anyway, why the fuck not, if they have the nerve to do it, the industry, and it definitely is an industry, will have to commit to a counter measure, be it law mongering, breaking their legs or producing media that is impossible to duplicate.

Film piracy on small scale will NEVER end, Macrovision proved that to be a total waste of time, it could be decoded by a cable with a tiny box on it.

Then Dvd Decrypter proceeded to urinate with immense force upon all counter copy dvd measures to date.

You could for instance encrypt all media you hire out at blockbusters, and when the algorithm expires for it's only available at blockbusters online hosted codec for your own player and copyright file format it is a useless jumble of code.

The pirates would find a way of intercepting the algorithm no matter what pieces of the file you get the codec to decode and buffer first, and a pattern would be established for each file.

I love the war between the two powers, freeloaders and rich men.

The thing with piracy is, a large majority I download I don't enjoy anyway. So it goes straight in the recycle bin.

Most games I download are completed within a week and deleted. Films are usually terrible, such as Fast and The Furious 4. Music is the same really.

Also is there even a way to watch films on my PC legally without buying the DVD? I don't even use my DVD player and watch films on my PC only.

Also isn't TPB just providing the infastructure to share files? Just as Kazaa and Limewire do?

If I can hear it, I can record it. There's no way they could stop it.

They make me laugh helplessly because they're the first thing ripped off a pirated DVD, so the people they are aimed at don't actually see them anyway.
