Looking at some middle-weight twins, wondered what other bikes are in this kind of class?

Aprilia Shiver.
It's a bit new though.
Any of the air cooled Monster 900s, or some of the tricker versions e.g. S4RS, S2R etc. ____________________ My Flickr |

Some of the early Air cooled Monster 900s should be quite cheap by now, they've been around for a while.
What sort of money you got?
There's always the SV1000. ____________________ My Flickr |

Aye been looking at them aswell.
I will have around 2K, though currently thinking I may just use the zx6r, get it back to road going status and do it up for a big tour with comfort essentials
Save the dosh and buy a bike that I dont need to do a big tour when I get back
I really shouldnt be running 2 600's and a 1.8 MG ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

Must admit, that looks fookin sexual Garth.
Whats it like reliability wise? Tank range etc?
I'll be doing Europe (4/5k miles over 2 weeks in June) is all. I know I shouldnt listen to all the Ducati horror stories but its like a nag I cant shake
I wont have the money for about 2/3 weeks. ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

Only weak spot is the clutch slave cylinder. I've replaced mine with an aftermarket V2 jobby which is a guaranteed, did this 120 miles ago and it cost me £79. Also makes it a little lighter too.
Oil changes are very 6k but I've done it every 4. Belts don't need touching for another year or 6k, not that they are hard to do. Has new head bearings (gen) and brand spanking new brembo red sintered pads on the front - they're bloody good actually. Also just had oil, filter, air filter and fuel filter (haven't fitted the fuel filter yet, but do have it)
Only thing it's ever let me down on is the slave. Hence why it's replaced! Erm, from memory it does about 46mpg and 140 to the tank but I haven't ridden it properly for six months so pass.
Comfy, too.
Neutral light lies sometimes.

ooh yeah, and I have the high level cans, and low level Wolfs, and the standards (these are knackered, the baffles disintergrate over time)
So with the low levels you can take a pillion 'cause I've got the peg hangers. ____________________ You ain't a has been if you never was |

I'm half and half at the moment. Weighing my options up.
Now, I propose a fight to the death between Garth and You, and somehow I end up with both bikes, and retain my cash.
How do you find it mate, and what can you compare it to that you've ridden? (ie how's it fare compared to the FZR? I know it'll be down on power obviously, just want a general idea) Looks bloody lovely. ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

Ha, I'l happily let Garth win that as I'm not too sure if I cna bring myself to let go of her yet.
Being completely honest, it is by far and away the most complete bike I've ever ridden.
Handles like an absolute dream (got the rear shock set just right finally), find it just as easy to flick about as my old CB1.
Engine is pokey enough to embarass most cars and keeps with middle aged 600s down the straights (FZR6 & Gix 6). Although to be fair as soon as you get to 100 it starts to lag behind a bit but that is something that I don't really care about nowadays.
I'd say the best bit of the bike is probably the brakes - the Blue Pots are disgustingly powerful which just gives me heaps of confidence on roads I don't know particularly well.
Oh, and the sound The carbons on there are without doubt the throatiest I've heard on a TRX (confirmed at a TRX meet last summer!).
Regarding the power - the fact that it's not ridiculously quick is one of the reasons I've grown to love it. You can give it a fistful in 2nd coming out of a corner and it will just lay it down, no issues. Compared to my old FZR I'd say it could easily keep with it upto about 80 but then, as I previously mentioned, the FZR would begin to pull away.
Anyway, best shut up, got a bit carried away there. ____________________ Past: Katana 50, NSR125RR, FZR600r, CB-1 Present: TRX850 |

No, I'm nowhere near Cambridge.
But I am up for a fight to the death. I think there should be different rounds and challenges. Jousting? ____________________ You ain't a has been if you never was |

We must have similar Tastes Fawbs, Speed Four TDM, are you copying me
If your going for the TDM splash the little bit extra and get a niner. The 850's are known for burning oil and the 900's have better quality, power, and an extra gear. The only downside is parts are harder to get. Put a can on it and it sounds like the world is ending. I can;t speak for the 850's but the 900 is a sweet handling bike if you are big enough to muscle it around. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. Skudd:- Perhaps she just thinks you are a window licker and is being nice just in case she becomes another Jill Dando.
WANTED:- Fujinon (Fuji) M42 (Screw on) lenses, let me know if you have anything. |

I was seriously considering a TRX, but I had to go with head over heart. My bike had to be a mile muncher. I would love ago on one. I do think they look incredibly sexy. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.
