When idling, even when the engine is up to temperature, it's on the verge of stalling. It idles at about 400 when usually its over 1000.

At low speed it chugs along with no acceleration but picks up over 4000/5000 rpm.

It was doing this in the winter on cold foggy mornings, so i don't understand why its doing it again with the current warm temperatures.

I've checked the choke at the carb end and it seems fine.

Any ideas?

I'd be saying clean your carbs, its certainly not carb icing if the problem goes away when your main jet kicks in and the revs increase Thumbs Up

I'd say its a blocked pilot jet tbh or atleast a grotty carb.

Clean the carb. It may be flooding slightly at low revs. Check the float and needle valve.

Try changing the plugs if you have some spare. It might be a dodgy plug that is picking up at higher revs. Use the idle speed adjuster to bump the revs up a bit, to stop the bike stalling. Start the bike and, while wearing rubber gloves, remove each plug cap, one at a time. Revs should drop, if not then you've found a dodgy plug.

It's not carb icing and probably wasn't during your foggy mornings either, that usually appears when you slow down after a stint at speed, the fuel lines/carbs suddenly start freezing up and you effectively run out of fuel, often conks out and has to be left until it melts.

As others say, clean the carbs, check your idle adjustment and balance them.

Thanks for the tips.

Bearing in mind i'm complete novice when it comes to repairing bikes, is cleaning the carbs a tricky job?

The most advance thing i've done is an oil and filter change Smile
