As per the title, had a bit of a crash the other week, just got bike back on the road and it's getting very hot!

I've taken the fairings off, water levels are fine. I've tried sqeezing the pipes to the radiator, the bottom one feels like it has very little water in, the top one feels completely empty.

When I start the bike, the left hand side of the rad (where the pipes are) get's hot, the right hand side takes alot longer to heat up, and the top of it does not get hot atall.

The fan is working fine.

After the bike has got really hot, I can still put my finger in the watertank and it's not hot, and there is no pressure in the radiator cap....

Any ideas? Shall I drain and refill everything?

Or is the waterpump likely to have had it?

Well sounds like it. I mean i cant see anything else that could cause this.
Although do drain and refill everything !

Is it a big/expensive job a new water pump ?

Hi

Check if there is a bleed screw somewhere in the system. Could be that some coolant has leaked out and left an air lock in the system.

All the best

Keith

Can I pour tap water into the top of the radiator? Then 'burp' all the pipes?

A while ago my zx9 was overheating doing the mile and a half trip to my old work. It's now fine commuting for twenty minutes through a town centre every day, after I drained and refreshed water in it... was just thinking today that it probably was an airlock.

Hi

Can try (although try using a water / antifreeze mix).

All the best

I have heard of faulty rad caps causing high temps too. I would replace the coolant first - i reckon its just an airlock.
