Heard of someone people doing London-Lands end on their moped before, went around the scooter forums for a while a couple of years back. Could be worth posting on one of them as they members on there are more likely to help/know.

Personal I am sure it will be fine, people have toured much further on all sorts of bikes. Any bike will tour it just depends on how you want to tour.

Go for it and give us a good write up Thumbs Up

I'd doubt if the moped are maintained that they wouldn't make it. Some people you shouldn't hold them at a continuous throttle for distance but I can't see it being such a problem.

If you get board, ride ahead and photo/video them as they go past. The few times I have had to do 30mph with my brother while I was on my 250 you soon get use to. It then feels amazing accelerate through the gears as it feels sooo much faster. Also I wouldn't worry about the bikes get too hot, is they are water cooled they will have a fan on the radiator... expect hot legs!

You will be fine I am sure. Just make sure everything has a good service before hand, get the peds to carry some spare 2-stroke and have fun!

I'd consider riding in different groups, giving those on the faster bikes time to go out for a 'play' while waiting for the others, or to look out for a place to stay etc.

That's what I was thinking. Especially as mine is air-cooled, riding at 30 in the second week of August is going to be tough-going on the old girl Laughing.

I think if you and your mate are on bigger bikes you'll become very bored riding at the same speed as the scooters, I'd spit up like G suggests, I'm guessing its about 400-500miles which should only be a few days riding even on a ped.

I rode down New Zealand on a fiddy that topped out at 35mph.
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=119923&highlight=zealand
I reckon you could do a 200 mile day on a fiddy at 35mph absolute max.
I've done a 650mile day on a 400cc bike traveling down the UK and 150 miles on a auto 50 riding down NZ which was just as tough.

No reason the peds shouldn't make it, even sitting flat out but its more down to luck then anything, would be a good laugh though finding out though.

30 mph to cornwall Shocked
Ouch man ! thats going to be the single most fustrating thing ever.
I went to nottingham ( 67 miles from where i live) on a ped. ( 45mph, according to its chineese speedo) and that was a killer. Not fun on your own at 3 am in the rain, then snow, then ice Wink

good luck Mr. Green

Just be careful. I live in Camborne (Cornwall) and it seems like we lose one motorcyclist a month on these roads. The A30 is pretty bad if you don't know it. Three lanes on one stretch of road. You can overtake going up it, you can overtake going down it - but when two people going in opposite directions decide to overtake at the same time ... well, not good!

Probably not a very good idea, a 125cc 4 stroke would be a better idea tbh.

So bit of a update on the situation, maybe swapping peds for a car but still me and Pernig go down on bikes, this came about after some deliberation that concluded that 18hours on a moped is just a we bit to far and everyone apart from me and Pernig will have only been riding for 6months or less and personally motorways are just easier and less stressful.

Bah, where's the sense of adventure? A car? Motorways?

Interesting stuff.

I and a few others (8 of us in total) are doing a similar trip down to newquay in July. Ok, so it's only 220 ish miles, but we're all going to be on Honda c70s/90s.

Cheap fun, and should get a sense of achievement at the end. And beer.

Thumbs Up

I've gone to france on a 50cc lol, it's fun stuff, but @ 30 it's going to be more dangerous and longer as your gonna have to take the back routes.

Pack down a map, tent, stove and take roughly 100quid min for fuel + food (can food/whatever you can pick up) if your gonna be riding in the earlys or lates take a high vis espically if you go on busy A roads as you'll go splat probably by a HGV lol.

Pack light as possible unless you got storage on your ped aka underseat/external storage devices

once you get there the peds will have the advantage, some of the towns and villages are very congested in summer by joe tourist and his 2.4 children.some petrol stations can close early so keep topped up,the hills can be hard on brakes so make sure you have plenty of pad/shoe life but most of all have a laff.

I'm going down to Penzance next week to visit the outlaws. First time on the bike so will be a laugh. Stopping off at exeter though to see my mate then onwards. Just hoping the weather will be kind as the A30 is crap in the wind and rain being so exposed.

I have just returned from a week's camping trip to Cornwall, stayed at St Stephen (highly recommend the campsite - court farm. Welcomes bikers as long as you are not expecting a wild & noisy time.)

Rode from Land's end to St Just, great twisty road, Atlantic Highway is also a good run from Newquay to Bude and the A374 to Torpoint. There are too many great roads to list, but most of the lanes are fantastic and the single track roads can be great fun as long as you keep alert to any oncoming traffic.
