to cut a long story short.I had my heart set on an rsvr for a couple years so finally took the plunge recently and bought a used 07/08 for 5.3k,still with warranty, and only 1000 miles on the clock, total minter.
Rode it for about 4 weeks and was suitably chuffed with it until one saturday morning it conked out in a huge puff of blue smoke and left me stranded in chinatown.
i was a little pisseed off to say the least but took it on the chin and promptly called the nearest dealer to pick it up,look it over, and fix it .This was only going to take a week in my mind,or so i thought!
The bike was plugged into the axone the following day and the fault showed up as a a coil failure, sounded like a simple job to me as it wasn`t strictly engine related, more to do with electrics and circuitry,so i gave the dealer the go-ahead and he said 5 days for the new part, and 1 day for the repairs. We`ll have you back on the road by next weekend mate,he says..
4 weeks later____________ and still not got the parts!
asked the dealer to chase up aprilia to find out where the parts are but they wont even reply.
Considering it`s a new bike under warranty this is shockingly shit service and it has put me off ever buying another ape as long as i live.Theyre the sexiest looking bikes on the planet but (OMG) their after sales service and customer care is just a total joke.
I waited 3 years for my dream bike_____and this is my reward.
To make matters even worse,if thats possible,i am also having to shell out for a hire car thats raping me of 200notes a week,
_________and i`ve also lost 3 weeks good weather riding already.
Kind of puts a big downer on life for me at the moment after spending a cruel, cold, and miserable winter slipsliding all over the icy roads and watching the salt rapidly destroy last years bike.
Fuck you aprilia, and thanks for ruining my year already!
by the time i eventually get the bike back i bet it will probably start pissing down everyday again.
seriously considering giving up biking for good now, theyre just so unreliable as a means of transport ,ESPECIALLY APRILIAS!
WORD TO THE WISE_____NEVER BUY AN APRILIA UNLESS YOUVE G0T BACK UP TRANSPORT.

From personal experience it sounds to me like it's the garage who are making up excuses. Aprillia won't just 'not answer' the phone, they're a huge company. Unless they ordered the part from somewhere else to save money, e.g eBay, and it's backfired into the garages face. I'd say ask the garage for the reference number for the order so you can chase it up yourself, I bet they won't have anything. |

The garage is giving you the run around mate. I had an RST Futura, much rarer than the RSV, I simply obtained the parts myself from major suppliers/forums such as AF1 racing in the states and handed them over with the bike when I needed stuff done.
Unlucky result with the RSV though, although my RST did have it's share of gremlins tagging along, the only time it ever left me stranded was a dead battery. Beyond that it was an absolute peach of a bike and I still regret trading it in ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |

Play it level with the garage, just say you think you can import the bits yourself if they give you the official Aprilia part numbers
From there nip on over to www.af1racing.com and have a browse over the parts catalogues, don't make the order online imho, phone or email them first to ensure they have the parts you need to hand. If it turns out to be a hugely expensive part or something simply sounds dodgy, check out AF1's forums too, theres an absolute wealth of knowledge as well as plenty of parts on sale.
Good luck, worst wait I ever had with AF1 was 4 days on an unofficial alloy fuel line quick disconnect plug, they are top people ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |

Ask for reduced labour because they haven't met a single deadline they gave you, so you aren't going to pay as much for the service they offered. Waving trading standards around a bit usually gets things sorted! It's a dickish thing to do but clearly you haven't been kept in the loop, haven't had any deadlines met and you're out of pocket for the car. |

Italian mate, what can you do
Want reliability get Jap, I'm still bunging around on 18/19 year old coils. (The originals)
Ok you may have just been unlucky, could of happened to anyone on any bike. But reputationally speaking no smoke without fire.
Hope you do get it sorted soon however, real shame you have to go without for the moment. And I have to agree the bike DOES look sex on wheels. ____________________ **WAS FITTED "WRONG WAY ROUND" !** CANT ACCOUNT FOR THE STUPID ! |

Aprilia Are Shite.......... I will never buy one again, Ive joined the japs..... There brilliant. What happens it i go into the garage and say " can i have this part please" they say "yes sir" then after 5minutes of banging and crashing in the back room, they come out with the exact part that i want.
Sorry to hear you story mate. Thats what you get for turning to the dark side

I've got a Millie and not had any problems with reliability. I don't recall coil failure being a common problem on RSV's so you've just been unlucky - had it been the sprag clutch or fork seals on the Ohlins forks then fair enough.
The guys on rsvr.net and rsvzone.com have a wealth of knowledge and I'd recommend you ask them on their for their opinions on this.
There's a shop Birmingham way that have a lot of Aprilia parts in stock but unfortunately I can't remember their name. They were very quick when I ordered a rear light from them in the past. Timemachinebikes on ebay a good stockist of new and used Aprilia parts - Linky |

Mate, after my experience with Aprilia I wont ever touch them again.
their customer services is a joke!
- If you want your parts you are gonna have to chase them up yourself, get the order number from the dealer and all part numbers, then call their 'customer' service dept. in Italy and prepare to do so every other day along with regular e-mails. eventually they will get the hint and make someone wonder over to the the bin your part(s) are located and send em off
Worst service i have had.... ever ____________________ A scientist crossed a skunk with an owl. He's got a bird that smells but doesn't give a hoot |

Not sure whereabouts you are but Southern Cross in Kilburn are fantastic. They have taken a part off a showroom bike in the past just to keep me on the road.
For spares try these guys, they have the full parts microfish on their site so you can find the numbers for most parts.
https://www.apriliayorkshire.co.uk/
I've had Aprilia Tuonos for about 6 years and not really had any major issues, the parts service was really bad a few years ago, but I though it had got better. If you take the bike to Europe just get some recovery cover but the chances are you will not need it.
I'd also recommend the breaker for spares

Thanks for the link to priller yorkshire.I just called them and they`ve got the coil pack on the shelf,no need to ship from overseas so i could have it within 48 hours or so..
So now ive got a fresh problem to deal with.
Called the dealer and asked for info on the part numbers they ordered and asked for the aprilia order reference number too.The guy i spoke to seemed to go on the defensive straight away and fobbed me off with excuses saying he will call me back when he speaks to service manager....that was only 10 minutes ago so i will reserve judgement for now and see if he comes back to me.
anyway,heres the important bit.
as soon as i told him i was thinking of just buying the part myself and paying the entire repair bill out of my own pocket__no warranty___,(because it will work out cheaper for me to do it that way compared to hiring this car for an indefinate length of time)...he then says "wait a minute.weve got another 07 in here atm that needs a new radiator so it aint going nowhere.i can take the coil pack off it and stick it on yours so you can be on your way"
sorry but that sounds dodgy to me and if i found out someone did that with one of my bikes i would not be very pleased.
i want my bike fixed soon but that doesnt sound like the actions of a straight up dealer to me,and i am now thinking that maybe theyve taken a part off mine to fix another one thats been there for a while.
This would explain why theyve had it so long despite every ape dealer ive spoken to telling me that they dont have any delays with parts fropm aprilia and always get them in 5-7 days without fail.
The only time they struggle with ape parts is in august because italy shuts down for 6 weeks then.
sorry for this long post chaps but im stuck and dont know what to do about this dealer now.
any help or ideas on my next course of action? |
