Ok so my exhaust is making a really loud rattling noise while im riding my ped,

I spoke to a garage and they said its my baffles have gone and the only solution is a new exhaust. The exhaust is a leo vince zx on a gilera storm. Is this really the only option, other people I have spoken to have said that it isnt.

Cheers

the baffles are in the end can. a new one is about a tenner. you can fix them yourself EASILY.

the mechanic is a liar. they all are.

I have a drill and other tools, just im not sure exactly what im doing to remove the baffle or anything. Is it safe to ride it as it is? What am I actually looking for as I dont even know what a baffle looks like and is it possible to take it out completely or will it reduce performance. +

not sure on your knowledge of bikes, however i will explain fully.
the exhaust should be in 2 parts to your bike...

typically on peds that is...

expansion chamber/manifold - bolted to your head/barrel of the bike...and is the biggest part of your exhaust. make sure this is securely fastened to your engine via springs/bolts

End can/Silencer -this is the smallest part of your exhaust which will contain a small perforated tube (core), which should have what might look like fiberglass woll wrapped around it.

unravel the old fabric from the core, clean it up with a wire brush, and make sure all the holes are clear and open.

Once they are you can re-wrap the core with baffles (can be bought from most motorbike shops for under a 10ner) [some people wrap there core with wire wool first] but i just wrap the baffles around my core, fairly tight, so it is just slighley larger than the inside diameter of the exhaust shell. re-insert then re attatch the core to the manifold part of the exhaust (usually 2-3 bolts)

easy job, no more than 10-20 mins.

If this is the case, get an angle grinder, open up the expansion chamber remove the baffle and then give it to a welder to seal back up.
