What a flop! This also means that next year there may not even be a British grand Prix Crying or Very sad

Don't see why they moved the GP to Donington really, Silverstone or Brands are much better tracks, hey, even Cadwell Park would be a nice F1/MotoGP venue.

Won't be missed really, hopefully it comes back strong but time shall tell.

Hi

Donington is a pretty good track but the facilities are worse than Silverstone.

That said I suspect the F1 top dogs would be happy to get rid of the British F1 GP and give them an extra date to sell to a far eastern country.

All the best

Keith

Not a chance. Silverstone and Donington Park are the only circuits with the facilities to host F1/MotoGP.

Cadwell doesn't even have garages!

I disagree with Donnington. I'd say Brands and Silverstone.

Hypothetically. Smile

The track itself is GREAT to drive, if they spruced up the venues liked they planned to with Donington it'd be a great track.

They should improve brands and move there, but I have a feeling brands would be a bit small for F1

Except a Formula 1 car would crash on the mountain.

There's nothing hypothetical about it, there are no garages! Razz

Off the top of my head (for F1 / MotoGP):
The track would need to be much wider.
Road access is very poor.
Viewing is limited.
Run off is very limited in many parts of the circuit.
Circuit length is quite short.
The Mountain would never be accepted.
Facilities are poor (press get a tent to work in for BSB!).
....etc.

The Brands Hatch paddock is too small, and far too disjointed. There have also been questions raised about whether MotoGP / F1 would accept certain parts of the circuit (Paddock Hill, for example).

I would imagine what will happen is that another party will take out a lease on the track to run it.

No doubt the rental payments will be lower than what the current leaseholder is paying (since they have been unable to make a decent go of it).

It may be that the current leaseholder could sell the lease to a 3rd party, and operations continue virtually seamlessly. Seems unlikely as the track owners are pushing for forfeiture, where they would get the lease cancelled, and be able to sell another one, which normally includes a hefty initial lump sum.

It should be a viable business, but really the best way to ensure it's ongoing operations would be for the owners to run it themselves, rather than selling the lease for someone else to run it. I can understand why they don't want the hassle of having to 'run' a company, but then again I doubt they want the hassle of battling for 2.5m in rent.

A nice nifty way to sort all this out would be to accept the other assets of the operational business as partial payment of the rent liability, put these into a new operational company owned by the track owners, then have things tick on as they have been. Probably would include a lot of arguing and faffing aboutto get to that stage tho!

Sadly as far as F1 goes the track is not that high on the adgenda.... They are more interested in how many hospitality suites, press rooms, helicopter pads and other stuff that will entice the money in.....

Not how good the track is....

I did hear talk a few years ago about the pit lane at Brands Hatch being moved out into the woodland section part of the GP circuit so they could be brought in line with F1 regs and possibly bring F1 back there. But I think it was only talk!

At the moment, its only Dony or Silverstone that have any chance what so ever of hosting a MotoGP event, maybe Brands at a real push, but I think they may need to improve its facilities more before its seriously considered. Its currently the best equiped out of the Motosport Vision owned circuits.

F1 will again only be at either Dony or Silverstone, Brands couldn't cope with the amount of vehicle's or run off area needed for an F1 car. Bernie only seem to like circuits with big long straights now!!

Personally, I think MotoGP at Silverstone is going to be crap, I'd like to see Brands get a shot at it if its no longer going to be held at Dony.

Thumbs Up

If they werent so friggin obsessed with "safety" we'd have much more entertaining race series to watch.

It beggars belief that a car that does 150mph in less that what, 6/7 seconds? Is awash with safety regulations.

Its not even racing anymore, its just some cars going around a track one behind the other.

God forbid an overtake happens, with the amount of paperwork involved and the Appeals that would take place, I wouldnt want to either. No wonder hamiltons calmed down a bit. Probably got wrist ache from signing too many legal documents saying he would never crash, never race, never overtake, never do anything remotely exciting...but be out new face for Coca Cola? Yeah cool.

Rolling Eyes

Personally think Brands would be pretty entertaining. Fuck the run off area. Restrict the cars for a single race, would be easy with the amount of technology in there! Have them top out at 150mph. Then we might actually see a RACE!
