Hi guys, I have a few problems with my scoot which i have just lived with but now its summer really want to iron out for the "season".

Its a "50cc 2 stroke 1997 Italjet Velocifero, Suzuki AC50 morini engine, DellOrto carb"

1. My scoot wont idle. Ive played with the air/fuel mixture screw and the idle screw and cleaned out the carb. (granted i dont really know what im doing with the air/fuel mixture screw but ive tried many settings).

2. My scoot only starts with a little easy start (unless its already hot, please note, hot, not warm).

3. My exuast gets VERY very hot, (obviously they are meant to get hot) but i put "Very high temperature engine manifold paint" on it and it just burns it right off. Didn't bother me but i recently bought a new exaust at £80 and dont want to burn all the paint off that for goodness sake.

thanks guys for any replies in advance!

If you're not sure what you're doing, then playing around with the air screw is not a good idea. check in the manual (if you have one) as to what its supposed to be set at. Most Ive seem are around 2 & turns out from fully in.

By the sound of things you have a VERY lean mixture (too much air, not enough fuel).

See if you can find a manual and set it all the the base settings, and check the float height too.

If you're not sure, try and get someone to help you, or even post pics up here and questions as to what you want to try and do.

Thumbs Up

Thanks, thats great, im afraid i dont have a manual and finding it near impossible to find what carb model i have, so it really is just a case of playing around with it. One of my friends also says its running too lean. p.s. also im not sure if the automatic choke is working.

Have you upjetted? You should do if you put a new exhaust on.

Very lean running I say. Any modifications to the air filter, carb or exhaust need to be balanced.

e.g. sports exhaust, bigger jets and air filter really.

Sport air filter, bigger jets.

etc

Hi thanks for reply, I have bought a new exhuast but it is the standard one for the bike. (i removed the restriction valve but thats it) The carb is standard as far as i know. The airfilter is not standard its a "racing" haha, one, but only because i cant find a replacement OEM one, do you think getting a standard airfilter would help?
