I do my DAS in a couple of weeks and I am looking for a good 500/600 bike for around £2500 max. I currently have a Gilera Coguar 125 which I have been riding since completing my CBT. Went for an assessment last Saturday on a 600 bike and it was a million times better than the 125.

What bike should I be looking for when I pass? I have thought of a Bandit but ideally I want a faired bike but a faired Bandit just doesn't look right!

Any opinions of a good bike that would be insurance friendly? or balls to the insurance and tell me a good bike! GSXR perhaps?

How about an SV650S?

Reasonably powerful, half faired and light. They are actually remarkably quick and they handle well.

Marjay, I do like the look of the SV650 and have just seen the pictures uploaded by nealski. Very nice, would I get one for £2500?

Yeah I expect so, doubt you'd get a gixxer in as good condition for the same money. Smile

Or, you could look at the Fazer 600. You should be able to find one for that sort of money. And people keep telling me that the older model is actually better than the new one. Rolling Eyes

Ideal first bike. IMVHO. Thumbs Up

I'm with Marjay (not literally Laughing) An SV650S would probably be best and they are available at £2500 quite easily. They look good, sound great, lots of stuff you can do to them and they're relatively fast but very user friendly.

Hope that helps.

SV's are very nice, i have a friend whos about to buy one, the riding position is good, they're supposed to handle well and at around 70bhp, can't go wrong.

SCARY Shocked I ride a coguar now, do my das on 22nd june and just bought a bandit! what do they say about great minds? Laughing Seriously though, i wanted an un-faired bike, and liked the bandit as soon as i saw it! they had an sv650 as well, strange thing i thought was they have a bigger engine, are faster, but a lower insurance group? bizzare! good bikes though!
